A lot of us have people that we say inspired us, or people who we call our heroes. Many look at the things Martin Luther King Jr. done, and we admire that. I wonder if a christian called an atheist his/her hero, how would we react to that? Do any of you have atheist hero's, people you respect and admire as a person? (I'll be back later to respond to any posts)

Richard Feynman. He was brilliant. And funny. I saw him lecture a couple of times and I was enthralled. The fact that he was an atheist is of little consequence to me. Besides, I have a soft spot for physicists.

There is no requirement to be affiliated with any Religious Denomination to be a hero, it is a non issue in my opinion.

Most of the atheists I know I've met here at CD. Although I wouldn't call them "heroes," I have a great deal of admiration for the intelligence and writing ability of posters such as Mordant and Shirina, to name just a couple.

As for myself, I can't say I have any person I would call my hero, no matter their views, but I admire guys like Bill Gates. A guy who is the richest person in the world, and yet that doesn't destroy him. There's a lot of people who would be destroyed by having a portion of what he has. The other thing I like about him is his humble nature. I can tell he's the kind of guy that lifts other people up on his shoulders.
