I read in an article that the protestants dismissed the church as a link between man and God, so that they saw man as in a more direct relationship with God. What did the link between man and God of the Catholics consist of? Was it that they gave absolutions?

Thanks

The hard core Sola Scriptures folks don't need a church (or even go to church). Ministers are not needed!

As long as they have a bible at home they are good to go. Everything they need is on the Bible. All they need its the bible, that it's it.

That's not true! Scripture tells us to "gather together". It also speaks of elders, deacons, etc.

If you gather with others there is the chance the congregation may create things that are not in the bible.

Seriously,

The Reformers believed they needed to strip down Catholicism. As expected Christianity got much more complex over the centuries and they wants a simple process---Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide.

The link is really the same in both.

Not just absolution, but all "sacraments" that were supposed to be performed by priests. The first Protestants recognized that the Roman priesthood was not a requirement. It was pretty much not until the "Restoration" movement that it was more generally realized that priests were not required at all.

Like Purgatory? That Mary remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus? Who then is James?

Matthew 13:55 says: Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

That and much more!

If MAN worships God and becomes organized many more things will be added. In fact Sola Scriptura itself is an addition of MAN.

But, ultimately the connection between MAN and God is the same in all religions.
