It said the package was simply addressed to the Vatican postal office, meaning any of the Catholic mini-state’s 800 residents could have picked it up.
The paper reported that a subsequent sting operation arranged with Vatican police failed to nab the intended recipient. No one claimed the package, indicating that he or she was tipped off about the plan.

Why mail a package with no specific addressee?
Anyone could pick it up?
If it was yours, how would you know?
If a post office receives a package that has no named reciepient, how do they identify the right person when somebody claims it?
Try this......Go to your local post office and ask if any packages arrived without a name. If they say "Yes" then claim the package and tell them it's yours and you've been waiting on it.

And funny how the paper said nobody picked it up. Therefore the person was tipped off. Maybe there was never an intended "person" and sombody sent some drugs to the Vatican knowing if would get sniffed out in Customs. Somebody who has a lot of money and is not a fan of Francis.

Pretty weak.

Yeah, this is definitely mafia related.. Benedict XVI started cracking down
on it, Bertone is in charge of the Vatican Bank, and change is occurring
but people have to remember that the Vatican is a sovereign state within
the borders of Italy. They don't operate in a vacuum, the mafia sometimes
uses the protections of the Vatican just like the Vatican uses the protections
of the mafia.

But the "protection" sent was not from the Mafia and ... would be of no use to celibate priests.
