The Colorado shooter was killed by an armed security guard, who was also a member of the church.

Is it normal for Christian churches to have armed security guards?

Our church started that a few months ago because of situations like this one.

I can't believe this, and it is so terrible that it has come down to this..Seems no public place is totally safe now..If my church felt the need for armed guards, I am afraid I would have to stay at home..I would not take a chance on any of my family being shot in the Lords House of all places

I visited a mega church outside of Atlanta last year and was surprised at armed security guards in the lobby and patroling the parking lot. I thought there was an emergency, but it turned out to be routine for them.

If you think about it, they take in a lot of money, much of it cash, each Sunday and the odds are most people won't be packing a handgun in church, so they are vulnerable.

Some churches have off-duty police officers directing traffic outside down here. I am wondering if that isn't a way to have protection without it looking like they are there to prevent robbery.

You're right blue, no place is safe anymore. We take a chance on being shot anytime we leave the house no matter where we go, to the mall, football game or church. But I'm not going to let fear keep me from going anywhere, especially church.

You have to wonder how many more would have been killed if the guard wasn't there.

I've never seen security at the churches here where I live...however, there very well could be.

In that article, about New Life Church, it stated that they beefed up their security that day because of the incident that took place in Arvada (Youth With a Mission). I'm assuming they must have security under normal circumstances, but they had MORE security because of the incident...sounds like a smart move on their part.

I just thank God more lives weren't taken.

From what i understand there were three armed security guards, two men and a woman. Witness accounts that I have come across claim that the men stood there, weapons drawn but did not attempt to take the gunman out. The woman calmly walked toward the suspect shouting for him to surrender and when he raised his weapon she proceeded to put an end to the carnage. A quote attributed to her was that she remained calm because she was praying the whole time. A terrible situation indeed. Thankfully someone was available to stop this person from killing even more innocent people.

It is interesting that she was praying and had just ended a 3 day fast when this occurred according to what this article stated.
