I appreciate all the comments in favour of equality, fairness and true morality.

Don't let those blinded by their bible infect you with their hostility and prejudice.

They won't see it.

They're blind to their own faults but have 20-20 vision (they think) for those of others.

Except that God loved people--and sent His Son to die for them. Your interpretation is that He sent His Son for everyone but those you wish to oppress. And not one word you or the other commenters "against sodomite and lesbian unions," reflects even remotely on how Jesus treated people.

And like Satan in the wilderness tempting Jesus, you are able to find scripture to assuage any feelings of guilt you might have for sounding self-righteous. After all it's not YOU who are writing in a bigoted fashion--it's GOD!

The US Government is promoting sin and eventually we are all going to have to pay a heavy price.
Being gay is wrong, but killing people is totally okay, therefore we should ban homosexuality and legalize murder.

LOL!! And with the laws in this nation, murder may not be legalized, but it's certainly been enhanced and encouraged---thank God for Christians who know how to keep their prejudices AND their guns!

Jesus KNEW the Pharisees were right. He KNEW the LAW demanded the woman's death. But Jesus saw beyond the LAW. He did not glorify or overemphasize it when it came to treating a human being decently. And that is why following the LAW is anti-Christ if it doesn't emphasize people over words.

Your problem is you are stuck in the LAW. What would help is if you discovered the heart of Jesus. Then the LAW wouldn't be a tool to hit other people over the head with.

Jesus was teaching forgiveness here. He also taught repentance, but if you are going to parallel this story with accepting gays, you are essentially saying Jesus is fine with you continuing on with sin. That is assuming you believe homosexuality is a sin.

I believe you have admitted you are not living in sinless perfection. If not, why would Jesus give you a pass and not homosexuality?

That's why Jesus told the Pharisees that he who was without sin should cast the first stone. He knew the woman was an adulterer. He knew the Pharisees had correctly interpreted scripture---just as you feel you have. But He saw mercy as more important than following the laws of the Bible. He said to the woman "Go and sin no more," but did she live in sinless perfection? Of course not. That's also why when asked by the disciples how many times they should forgive, He replied, "Seventy time seven."

People were simply more important to Jesus than the Bible. And when the two conflicted with one another, He chose people first. You are like those Pharisees clinging in their correct interpretation of the scripture, except they were not living the Christ like life Jesus wants from His followers.

Yes, you are religious. Yes, you know your scripture. Unfortunately, you appear not to know Jesus because your comments in no way reflect the love and forgiveness Jesus practiced.

Jesus gives us a pass and forgiveness when we confess our sins and are willing to turn away from them. That's the difference that you refuse to acknowledge. Do you really believe repentance is not part of Christianity? Did God continue to bless Israel when they fell into sin and away from him? No, they were punished and often led into a awful existence of slavery by their enemies. But when they repented and turned back to him, they were blessed again. Look what God says here:

""Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?" declares the Sovereign Lord. "Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?... Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die... Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?""

Ezekiel 18:23-31

Wow, you must belong to some newfangled New Age hybrid church. Jesus most certainly revered the Bible over everything else. You can see this here:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. "

John 1:1

The word of God is above all things. Now Jesus did have issues with the Pharisees because they had taken the law into ridiculous extreme legalism. Again, you don't know anything about my personal spiritual walk to make any claim that I don't know Jesus.
