And in order to PROTECT the religious nuts, here is what a California State Democrat (Mark Leno--San Francisco) introduced to make sure the religious preference of the right was protected:

Quote:
A new bill is being introduced in Sacramento, protecting clergy and churches from legal consequences for refusing to perform same-sex marriages. [San Francisco Chronicle] ----

Supporters of gay marriage say they’re trying to alleviate concerns of opponents who have religious concerns.

The proposal, which has the backing of the California Council of Churches, states that no clergy member would be required to perform a marriage that conflicts with his or her faith. Other religious organizations, including the California Southern Baptist Convention, have also endorsed the
legislation, introduced by Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco).
Bill allows churches to refuse to marry gays

Based on what I've seen that has occurred in three states, it would appear SUPPORTERS of gay marriage are much more cognizant of the FEAR of right wing Christian/politicos than the latter group is concerning the amount of bigotry and discrimination faced by homosexuals.

Hypocrisy unbounded.

Marriage is not a matter for the state, it's a minister's decision whether or not to accept a marriage. They can also refuse marriages where they feel there are clear-cut problems (visible boyfriends, abuse, etc). State involvement does more harm than good to a marriage.

If a priest wants to allow polygamy, marriage to sock puppets, whatever, that's fine. You should not be penalized for refusing something like that though.

Why would anyone want to identify with this horrible example of ugly gay-bashing?

P.S. THIS is freedom of religion---and its ugliness is tolerated by government and praised by right wing crazies.
I don't know about praised but if Rev. wright can say, "not God bless America, God damn America" I guess this preacher can say what he wants even if it makes people mad. Free speech, you know.

Would you have taken pictures of a KKK wedding or a Nazi one that hates not only gays but blacks, Catholics and any other organization who are against them.

The time that became an issue for me (I had a bottle of wine with me that I had been given as a gift), the driver was polite and respectful and told me he couldn't transport me, but offered to wait with me and call another cab driver who would. I was fine with that, and wouldn't ask him to violate his religious principles.

That seemed reasonable. If someone were to refuse to offer me lodging, or transport if there was no other conveyance available based on a religious belief, that would be different. As there are other cabs, and other wedding chapels, and other photographers, and other wedding cake bakers, I can handle the inconvenience, or give my business to someone who is willing to accommodate my needs.
Precisely. Only people who have an agenda to ram through would insist on getting services from someone who does not want to do them. It seems to also be a good way to get money in a big settlement after suing them. Extortion but it's legal.

It's in a church. There is no government requirement for that church to speak in a particular fashion. You started this whole thread to drum up fear that gay marriage would take over our churches. I've shown you two states with conservative "god-fearing" legislatures who are actually trying to dictate to pastors what they can do inside their church. And I've provided information about gay-supporters in California PROPOSING legislation to prevent any requirement of pastors or churches to marry same sex couples.

I think everyone on the thread deserves your apology for jumping to a conclusion that you spent no time researching. This kind of fear-mongering should be reserved for Fox News.

Isn't it amazing that the Hitching Post website suddenly became uber "Christian"? Just as they were filing a complaint against the city's non-discrimination ordinance? They wanted to be able to legally discriminate against gay and lesbian people because of their "sincerely held religious beliefs". So now they suddenly have biblical quotes and a new uber-Christian policy on their website.

If you check the Internet Wayback machine, for archived versions of their website, there was nothing "Christian" about their website until very recently.

Except all the Scripture plastered all over the page? That's usually a clue that you're dealing with a Christian entity.

EDIT: I don't disagree with the premise that they are changing face to get out of gay marriages, but let''s not be untruthful.

I just read their entire about page and looked at the front and a few others. Where's all the scripture?

edit: found two verses on the "in love?" section

So far that's all I've found. Really had to dig for that one. Let's see what the website looks like now :-)
