You HAVE to question it if you take the faith seriously.
Paul said that he had a vision of Jesus Christ. Yet, he also said that his appearance was the SAME as the appearance made to the apostles years before that.
Either:
1. The Jesus Christ written about by Paul and by the gospel writers represented a spiritual aspect shared by Paul, the apostles, and the followers in the same way. Up to the present day and throughout the last 2000 years. Or maybe even longer (by many centuries and across cultures) if you count the experiences reflected by the ancient prophets. And the figure in the stories was based on a real historical teacher who had been crucified.
OR
2. The miraculous stories and resurrections were literal history.
I've never and still do not question the existence of Jesus. I question the embellished, exaggerated, and in some places, complete fabrication weaved around an actual charismatic figure who probably lived in first century Palestine as read in the New Testament.
Oh, and I not all giddy about some hippie Jesus either; you know, some guy who was all about peace and love. If what the NT says he said is, in part, true, then he said some coarse things here and here, but about the ONLY story surrounding him I love is when he sent the possible executioners packing who tried to kill the woman they caught in adultery. You all can keep the rest.

Peace and love is a hippie thing?
Guess I'm a hippie then, because I do get all giddy about a way of thinking and being that fosters peace and love.

Well, they did not or do not have a monopoly on those thing, Pleroo. I linked those things to them along with Jesus because that is how he is often pictured when it comes to that idea of him. Scruffy guy, walking about the place with no place to call home and having eveveryone hold hands and sing Kum By Ya.

I don't equate peace and love to holding hands and singing Kum By Ya. We did that when I was in youth group and I know a lot of us weren't loving and peaceful people.
It is no longer sufficient to hold beliefs, just because you inherited them.
Why? How can you prove this? Can you prove this?
I inherited a belief in a strong work ethic. Why is that no longer sufficient? Why has it served me so well if it's not sufficient?
