I finished this book today! I've been reading it methodically because I'm part of a theological study group, and this was the book for the third-year people It's a lot, to put it mildly. I have probably forgotten more than I can remember. It's something that needs to be read through more than once. Most chapters were at least fifty pages of detailed information, and then we discussed what we read on Tuesday nights.

I recommend it, highly, for anyone. If you have the book in your possession but don't have time to read it all right now, I suggest you at least read the last chapter, Culture Wars, which covers the period from 1960 to 2010, when it was published. It will give you a lot of insight as to how we got to some of the things people argue about on this very board.

It really gave me a new look at the "church" and the real Jesus. Well written and researched.

Yes, same here. Made me know that the divisions and arguments and claims made by different people today in different branches of Christianity are nothing new. It's the same old same old that's been going on for 2000 years.
