Oh blast--you gave it away! I was trying to find out if it would be offensive to people who did not know what it means. I am being told it's offensive and strangers are going to shoot me.

I think pretty much everyone on this forum has seen the Star Trek movies. Ooops!!! Apparently at least one person hasn't.
No. The question is valid. The entity they thought was G()D (I can't remember if the entity claimed to be G()D or not) required the starship, and the question was a valid one in relation to what the mortals thought of as being G()D-like was all about.
When an entity is assumed to being G()D or otherwise claims to be, and then acts aggressively when questioned, while indeed that entity has certain attributes of what a G()D is, aggressive murderous behavior craps all over the integrity and quintessence of that concept.
In other words, it is a very poor example of a G()D.

Shields UP, Mr. Scott!
I have a sticker that says "I think, therefore I do not listen to Rush Limbaugh" and I have gotten some snide comments in the past.
don't think about it so I can pin you to the first thing you said?
yeah that's valid.
Uh, no, I said don't look it up. It is a pretty valid way to measure people's reactions to a bumper sticker, when they have only moments to react and they aren't looking it up because they're driving.
I think Captain Kirk asked a very good question. The entity on that planet at the center of the galaxy was not God.
Maybe someone should start a poll as to whether or not the Star Trek universe contains some elements that are anti Christian. Take teleportation as the best example.
