That would be true if Jesus did not come and conquer sin on the cross and resurrection.

While perhaps it's not my place to say so, the other posters have it right. OT is about atonement. NT is about reconciliation. Both are about forgiveness.
The OT was to deal with idolatry, ie. man had forgotten who G-d was. The NT came to deal with hate, ie. the love of G-d was displayed in a man for all to see. Upon these TWO, the whole of the law hangs, these are the two stones of a priest that cannot be broken else he is disqualified from serving in the temple. Peace
