Jesus said that those who do not follow after Him are not worthy of Him. But really everyone interprets this to suit themselves. But He gave specific instructions to remain in His word and go into the world as He was sent. There again everyone interprets going into the world as He was sent differently. But they refuse to use His words because they use verses that seem to discount that command when in reality since they do not follow Him He will not allow them to see Him, the truth, the word of God. They are not worthy to be the son, the child of God so as to know the Father and His word.

Matthew 10:38 NRS

"and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me."

Are you worthy?

I am.

I am the light of the world. No one who follows me shall ever walk in darkness because he will possess the light of life.

Define the phrase TAKE UP MY CROSS?

For me that mean s doing as Christ had done--

EDUCATING

AGITATING

ORGANIZING

DARE TO QUESTION AUTHORITY and CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO...

What a low view of Jesus this is. I don't know if you are describing Jesus or Saul Alinsky.

By the way, Jesus is THE authority.

Sometimes i wonder if take up the cross and follow me was added at a later time. If Jesus is still alive, I doubt any Jew back then would even know what he was talking about. Its like if Jesus was hung, it would be like saying take up your noose and follow me.

See how people tend to ignore His word. He said to abide or remain in His word. The word of God is the cross.

I think take up your cross means to carry a burden. Just like Jesus had to carry His cross to be crucified to pay for the sins of mankind, Jesus is asking His followers to carry burdens in order to help others.

this is reflected in baptism--and not that "pastor saying the right words and dunking you" stuff; real baptism. "Take up your noose and follow Me" is a great way to put it!

My focus was on what was omitted.

His death and resurrection - not only that He did those, but that He predicted them beforehand.

The miracles, saving people by faith, the healings, the teachings, the feeding of 5000 miraculously, His relating to the Father

ok i might agree, but let's admit that "DARE TO QUESTION AUTHORITY and CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO..." is what got Him crucified! Or put another way, it is admitted from the pulpit that Christ would likely not be welcome in our church.
