Why are we told by the apostles to be baptized?

The Bible explains that people enjoy the forgiveness of sins and eternal life by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ his Son (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 3:28).

The Bible states that baptism gives people those very blessings of life and forgiveness (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Ephesians 5:26; Titus 3:5-7; 1 Peter 3:21).

Baptism gives those blessings because of the powerful word of God that is attached to the water.
So tell me if I've got this right. You can accept Jesus as your Savior and receive salvation, but then you can forgo baptism if you are willing to forgo the very blessings of life and forgiveness. Is that what you said?

That's ok..one day that may include evangelicals as well.

Actually the topic is "The state in which we must come to Jesus" and that does not state belief is a prerequisite ?

But, as many evangelical fundies do, they read between the lines to make it say what their preconceive interpretation need to say to match their punitive and vengeful beliefs of who god is not.

Water can not wash away sin, only the blood of Jesus can do that. Should we get baptized in water? Absolutely, but only after begin born of the Spirit -- a new creation in Christ Jesus.

Even though the passage is talking to Christians who had fallen into error rather than new believers it IS a good picture of what repent means: 11See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

Commitment.
