The mother? Why, no!! I mean, now I would say she either passed away or was cooking and cleaning!
It seems unimportant to the story, I guess.
What 4 beautiful women...rem I am no Bible scholar...opened it Jan 2006 for the first time.
Yes, blessed be the Name.
The prodigal son shows the actual history of Israel, not Judah. The son who stayed home is Judah, but because the flesh is Ephraim and the spirit Judah, it is still talking of you Miss Hepburn, both sons....Your flesh wanted to go out and break the laws, but there is still a righteous son who stays home with the father. The parable is literally speaking of Judah and Ephraim's history of two kingdoms, the two sons of God. But again, that is you. You ARE the kingdom of heaven.
All figurative language is to reveal spiritual truth to believers in a more memorable way.
That IMO, is the most difficult one to understand. Let me offer a possibility, but don't bet the home place on it. The most basic thing it teaches is the second coming of Jesus. It also teaches us to be ready at all times, since we don know the day or the hour. IMO it also teaches that the second coming will happen very quickly and it will be too late for those who did not prepare. The fact that 5 had extra oil( a symbol of the Holy Spirit) indicates it will not happen soon.
I'm wondering if ages ago I asked this on another forum...obviously I'm still lost.
No, the oil is not the holy spirit, again, you cannot purchase the holy spirit and it is said that if anyone even tries, they are cursed.
All those parables are written to pregnant virgins for when they have matured a son, and you can't explain to anyone, you can tell them what to do to buy oil, and tell them how to buy gold in the fire, and they wont believe you no matter how many scriptures you show them, they cannot believe.
You are supposed to be as a submissive virgin to the will of your betrothed and you are supposed to know that you must be born again, and you must know that a seed is within you that you raise by study, the child only eats the word.
There can be billions of virgins but what use is that if you are barren?
When Christ comes and finds one of his supposed virgins with a little baby who was neglected and starved all his life, how do you suppose a husband will react after he looks at us, and looks at the sick starving child that we were responsible for 40 years? For 40 years we had a seed of God and we stuck it in the earth and did nothing, we didn't give the child enough sustenance that Christ was ever formed in us.....For everyone who has not raised a full grown mature son, Christ is coming to kill our baby.
Message to the Church in Thyatira
Here are the babies not matured.
18And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; 19I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. 20Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Here are the Righteous sons who are matured..., they will receive ALL the promises of Jesus because they are mature grown sons, and anyone found with a child, they will lose there child and so woe are those with children and weaning children on Rosh Hashanah..
24But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. 25But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. 26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: 27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. 28And I will give him the morning star.29He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Yes, blessed be the Name.
The mother is the most important part of the family sis.
It is her inward heart that is expressed in the covenant of the eighth day.
What ole hanni isn't telling you or any reader here is that the Truth will set you free.
You have probably already heard the oral tradition concerning the dauhters of yisrayl.
If not,
It is no small matter of conversation in the Holy One.
Being Washed in the Word is like unto a widow and orphan in need.
A measure of meal with a portion of oil she forgot to consider until a stranger happened by.
What hanni ignored is the indifference of pain.
As much as Moshe loved Yeshua with all his heart.
He learned that a garment in a cleft of the rock serves as a reminder of the slack memory of those whose hearts seek power.
Women are not like man in this matter.
Because the Lord All Mighty wrote upon their heart a beautiful name.
One that she will never forget.
The Torah of the stranger reminds me of something like a mystery unresolved until the author and finisher of the Faithful calls.
Are those whom are called likened to having 7 ears upon the heart. Always visiting the well in a time of need.
Perhaps the orphan at the well was the one with oil, and the man of God remided them of the water and bread.
Seems the servor has been given a chance to reconcile.
Allright,
Would you like to continue a conversation elsewhere?
After hearing all this talk of wine skins and breaking covenant.
I believe there are more important matters that need attending to.
Especially concerning the Three High Holy Days that have been ignored so to speak.
Firstly,
For lack of the Spirit of Knowledge has not, nor will be imputed upon the innocent generation.
From as far as I can see, the Lord of Host would not condemn the Children who have been coerced into oaths of office..
Those persons whom practice lawlessness with intentional obligations and whom are easily seen by the markings of their skins will be destroyed. Those so called leopards are mere young lions seeking something that was not theirs to offer.
Filthy cowards will have nothing to eat but their own mother.
Harsh as that may sound.
It is something that need be said.
Ismael and the goats have no covering any more than the queen of the south these days. With such arrogance their kind sought violence upon Holy Ground.
Look Away ole friend.
What is to come is not for the eyes of the innocent.
If and when the stench of the smoke rises to heights of pillars of salt.
Which reminds me.
Have you ever seen what happens to wine when salt is added?
If you are truly living south of h,town, I suggest you leave with your family as soon as possible.
That cities leaders may have changed their minds. But the mark upon the land hasn't.
Parables were a common form of teaching spiritual lessons in the Jewish culture. Parables similar to many of those used by Jesus are found in rabbinic materials predating him. The culture was largely oral and a parable was a good way for an itinerant teacher to make a lesson memorable. Some of the scenarios would've seemed much more familiar to a first century listener than they do to us.
The deepest theology I've read suggests that Jesus' use of parables was part of his overall strategy to quietly usher in the kingdom of God. Jesus was even somewhat cagey about who he was. If he'd boldly announced "I'm the Messiah!" at the start of his ministry, this could have derailed his entire mission. The Jewish expectation of the Messiah was of a mighty warrior king who would destroy its enemies once and for all, so pretty much the opposite of Jesus. If Jesus had openly used the term Messiah his ministry likely would've been over before it began.
Jesus also emphasizes that the kingdom of God arrives quietly, in the hearts of believers. It doesn't arrive with huge fanfare and billboards in the sky, which would coerce belief. God wants believers who turn to him of their own free will, not who have been coerced. Thus, in the parable in Luke 16 when the rich man in torment in hell begs for the poor man in paradise to be allowed to return and warn his brothers, the answer is that "‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead." When Doubting Thomas touches Jesus' wounds and finally believes, Jesus similarly says "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
The NT makes a huge distinction between hearing and understanding. Jesus (and God) wants understanding, not mere hearing. Everyone hears the parables but not everyone understands them. From what I've read the Greek word translated as understanding implies a deep heartfelt response. Parables that are indirect or obscure force people to think, to wrestle with the point being made, perhaps to debate the meaning with others. If and when the light bulb finally goes on, their understanding will be deeper than if they'd heard a simplistic knock-knock joke sort of parable. This at least is one theological understanding.
A related notion is that the truth was veiled in parables because Jesus was trying to break through to the hardened hearts of many of the Jews. They didn't have, as the NT keeps saying, ears to hear. A simplistic teaching would've gone in one ear and out the other. A memorable but puzzling parable would have a better chance of staying with them.
The parables were primarily for first century listeners. The veil came off, for them and for us, with the Resurrection.
All of Christianity is counterintuitive, not what we would have expected first century Jews to invent (and certainly not what they were expecting). This is why Tertullian, one of the deepest early thinkers, said "I believe because it is absurd." He didn't mean "I believe because it's ridiculous" but more in the vein of it's all so counterintuitive that I believe the source must be divine.
I figure Jesus had a reason...can you explain it to me?
I never quite understood why with simple people there he didn't make things easier;
some metaphors he did, tho...very simple...building a house on sand, etc.
Thank you.
What is that one about women and not having enough lantern fuel or something and she knocks on a door, but is not let in? Ch and verse? Where is it? pls ...someone explain that one.
I'm wondering if ages ago I asked this on another forum...obviously I'm still lost.
what everybody else said and ...
from my perspective he was teaching to notion(s) that do not have a fixed, or closed, end point. He was using examples and analogies that he thought fit in the framework of the idea he was trying to express.
remember, not all examples/analogies are spot on, or even work, and have to reworked ... lol ... by the educator; by the next period ... often in less than four minutes. lmao. fun times to be had by all.
also, when examples are used, they are often limited to the topic at hand and may even be "shortcuts" to solve particular problems. During those times I can see a student asking "what if ... ?" and jesus responding, "great question, let me hold off answering that for now." until he feels the group is ready to move.
so, in answer to your query, some of the examples/analogies are just poor fits, the topic was nebulas to begin with, or the recount of the lesson itself is incomplete and the analogy used looks like it doesn't fit.
I am confident enough to claim mrs hepp, that in your case, do not over think it. You have enough insight to pretty much nail what he meant and if it doesn't make sense to you, it may just have been a bad example or so limited to one type of human interaction that we miss it until we experience that exact same human experience.
good old relentless common sense. He may, just of had a bad day.

Miss H, let's look at it on face value, fundies have a clear(unhidden....Red Fleg!) message believe or got to hell, what is so hard about that to understand?. Jesus taught in an absolutely different manner, he wasn't hiding the truth, truth, which is basically in laymans terms streams of living water flowing from the depths of our being. The fundy version, so easy frickin peasy to believe in, but streams of living water for believing(not the fundy in hin him) on the the scriptures testify that causes living water to flow(not trickle) from their innermost being ...... Now that a parable, saying or teaching is to comprehend.

That place cursed God.
Why should I leave? Is a curse coming upon the Houston area? What is going to happen?
