All across the fruited plain Pastors after a fiery sermon ask for people to come forward and repeat a flowery "sinners prayer" that supposedly ushers them into a salvation experience, but does it really? the fact is it isn't biblical at all...........

A person is saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. How you express that faith in response to the gospel message may vary. It is certainly valid to express your faith in the form of a prayer. There is no set formula prayer that you must pray. The exact wording of that prayer may vary, but God recognizes the faith behind the words. And whether you say it out loud or silently think it is irrelevant.

Neither are fiery sermons and asking people to come forward.
AFIK, any prayer offered from the heart is "legitimate." Any prayer just repeated by wrote, and without conviction, regardless of what it says, is not.
Again, I thought forgiveness was granted via BELIEF in Christ and not through works (isn't prayer a type of works?)
Eternal salvation is through faith in Christ. Expressing that faith to God through a prayer, for example, ''Father, I am believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life,'' is not working for salvation. It is simply expressing your faith to God.
Prayers for salvation may be the only prayer that God would hear from lost people , as it is the will of God for people to seek out Jesus for redemption .... Still it would be wise for lost people to also seek the prayers of believers in Christ , as believers will lead people to the right spirit which is God , as lost people who reject Christians can be saved by rebellion spirits or gnosis spirits not of the living God through Jesus
It would depend on what Praying any particular prayer is expressing: if it is expressing a commitment to live in the Way Jesus taught it will save the prayer from a futile life.
