We break the law because we ARE sinners.......we don't have to do anything to be sinners, we are all BORN in the inherited sin of Adam......every one of us. So the millions of "good" people out there who smugly think their nice lifestyle gets them into heaven are sadly mistaken. The law convicts the whole world, that's everybody.
Rom 3:10 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
Rom 3:11 no one understands; no one seeks for God.
Rom 3:12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."
The law has no provision to save from sin, but in fact highlights the problem..........
Rom 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
Rom 3:20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
In the next verses we see the key to everything.....Grace and Mercy.........received as a GIFT
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Rom 3:24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
Not even ONE person in heaven will be there because they EARNED it......if you receive a gift by FAiTH you certainly can't brag about it........and I want everyone to consider something........
If we did earn our way to heaven with good works, generosity etc can you imagine millions of people who can't wait to boast of their exploits that got them to heaven? truly it wouldn't be heaven but the worst hell I can think of........heaven will be filled totally with people thanking Jesus for what HE DID......

Ahh well, they will not all be in heaven.
KJV Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
JPS Psalm 37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
Chicken/egg?
This is lol abou the jundied view ohuman nature promoted in "Reform theology." Yes, we have two intincts hitch re often at odds: we want what is our perception of what is best for us personally, but that may harm others or the group as a whole, to which we need to belong and must make concessions. Nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes we get what we want at the expense of others and hope we won't get caught.

So God holds us accountable for something we never did wrong? First off, that would be incredible unjust, and the one thing God is not is unjust. Secondly, that's saying that Jesus Christ did not atone for Adam's sin, and that His sacrifice was therefore incomplete. We are human beings, and human beings are predisposed to look out for number one, regardless of whether they hurt other people in the process. But being predisposed to doing something is not the same as being guilty of doing something. We become sinners when we knowingly and willfully break one of God's laws; we do not become sinners by merely drawing our first breath. That's nonsense.

I agree with what you both said, my view is that the scriptures are not addressed to individuals but to communities

Scripture indicates we are born guilty, does it not? Romans 5:18

That is the interpretation of the "Refrorm theologians," it is also a crock.
