No, it would be impossible to do that. It was foretold centuries before, it was Gods will. Gods will cannot be stopped. Satan would have stopped it if he could have.

I dont think God would use such a thing...mainly because it COULD have other natural origins or even man made.
If God is going to send wrath or some kind of punishment onto the people, I think he would want to ensure EVERYONE KNOWS ITS COMING FROM HIM (could not have any other natural explanations).
