When making plans for the wedding, my mother earnestly asked the Rector a year before the wedding - "Now that scaffolding is unsightly. The work WILL be done in time for our wedding, will it not?"

The Rector said "I am sure they will try their best to have it done in a timely fashion".
For some reason, I've never gotten there. Have to make a point to do so.

I remember some years ago that they brought stone workers over from Europe to train young people from poor, inner-city neighborhoods in the craft to work on the church.

For those who wonder why it's called St. John The Unfinished, check out the timeline from the website.

Here is one for the future. I started a thread when it was in the news that construction would be starting up again after financial issues caused the contractor to shut down the job, but nobody cared.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was housed in a plain boxy building, four stories high, a block and a half southwest of the World Trade Center, and was obliterated by the fall of Building Two. It was under fifteen feet of debris, and very little was recovered, not even its icons.

They sued, of course, and in place of that little building, a much larger church and community center is being built adjacent to the southern edge of the WTC Memorial Plaza.

The Cathedral of Saint Sophia in Kiev, Ukraine, is probably the most dramatic, beautiful and the oldest Cathedral I have visited.

I am so bad at posting pictures but - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_...athedral,_Kiev

Absolutely the most stunning, breathtaking, incredible manmade structure EVER! The moment I walked in the doors, my mouth dropped and remained open for the full hour I was in the building. I've never seen anything that can even begin to compare.

Did you go up the elevator and walk down? I think Rapunzel lives there too.

Place is incredible. Pictures can not do justice to La Sagrada Familia.
