1 Corinthians 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.
In other words:
"I talked like a child. Thought like a child. Reasoned like a child. Pure love, simple truths are easy to understand without all of the baggage.
Then I grew up and abandoned those thoughts.....and the simple truth.
For NOW that I have done so. Now that I have abandoned those things, and left them behind, I NOW see God less clearly. I see God NOW as only like a cloudy reflection in a mirror."
Matthew 19:14 -
But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”
The gospel (GOOD NEWS) is not complicated. In fact, children are closer to God and have more of a pure heart and are more likely to understand and accept it far easier than adults.
The world hardens you as you grow older... you start to forget God. You discard the true nature of God and leave it behind with your "childish" thoughts and reasoning.

You know sis most see that scripture the other way around, but I like your take on it. We are expected to mature but we need to retain the faith of a child.

The point of Jesus' teachings on that is humility. It is a heart condition and those who actually understand it had it revealed to them because of their heart. Jesus spoke in parables for those childlike ones to understand

Our Fathers goal is to produce not mere children (yhios), but mature sons (teknon), in whom He can manifest His glorious image.
Our Sunday school teachers used to emphasis the difference between "childlike" and "childish"...
It was funny because we had a guy in our Sunday school class who was hell on wheels. Always acted out and caused problems. Our Sunday school teacher used him as the example of "childish" and then she used the example of this goody two shoes girl in our class as being "childlike"...
It was kind of funny because we called our Sunday school class the "Jay ******* Comedy Hour" in honor of the trouble making kid because he was so entertaining. The "childlike" girl was kind of boring

Yes, and part of that maturing is not abandoning the true glorious image, the true glorious nature of God, which we understood far more clearly when we were mere children. Maturity means realizing the error of our ways, "casting off the things which we should NOT have cast off", going back and re-examining what God already imparted to us, what God already placed in each of our souls and re-capturing it.
So many say..."Oh, if only I knew then, what I know NOW!" but do we stop and say "oh, if only I knew NOW what I knew THEN."? Maybe we should. It would make understanding God a whole lot easier and a whole lot deeper. That is where the maturity comes in.

Yeah, I used to see it the other way around. Then one day, years ago, it occurred to me that there is another way of looking at it. Lots of layers.
