Without quoting James what is the collective opinion.......saved or lost?
I'm assuming you're referring to the belief that we are saved "by grace alone." If that's the case, here's my answer...
Go had a purpose in putting us here. It was not so that He could be entertained by our trials and stupidity in dealing with them. It was not so that He would have somebody to worship Him. He would be just fine without our worshipping Him. He put us here so that we could learn to love as He loves, thereby becoming more like Him. Christianity exists for the purpose of helping us learn how to live.
We focus far too much on "salvation," rather than on becoming what it is our God-given potential to become. The person who believes in salvation "by grace alone," will be "saved." He will be resurrected from the dead and not cast into some fiery pit where he'll suffer for eternity. He will, however, miss out on the joy that would otherwise be his had he learned what God put him here to learn. He will not enjoy the sublime happiness that comes with being able to genuinely see all human beings as his brothers and sisters and as fellow sons and daughters of God.

Since we have nothing to do with our salvation, definitely saved, but to what is the question. It is at the very least some corrective kolasis ("pruning") of their spirit in some manner to make it compatible. I reject completely any eternal punishment or any such eternal nonsense that would negate salvation.
Saved. He simply will have had a non-productive spiritual life and will lose out on eternal rewards at the judgment seat of Christ.
Does that mean the kid that repeated a prayer at age 6 at a VBS is saved? My thought is "maybe". But I can't say. That is up to God to determine. But we can only judge according to the fruit one produces.
