And who gets to decide whether or not they are holy relics ? "Inspired" men ?

Everybody gets to decide. You can decide for yourself.

As for the Church's role; if the Church gets involved, all they do is rule on whether veneration of a particular relic is permitted or not based on whether it is consistent with or contrary to the Faith.

Same with miracles.

They're an "inside job"

How long does a body last after embalming?

By ten-years, given enough moisture, the wet, low-oxygen environment sets off a chemical reaction that will turn the fat in the thighs and bottom to a soap-like substance called grave wax. However, in drier conditions, the body could also be mummified – that’s mummification without wrappings, or chemicals.

But by 50 years, the tissues will have liquefied and disappeared, leaving behind mummified skin and tendons. Eventually these too will disintegrate, and after 80 years in that coffin, your bones will crack as the soft collagen inside them deteriorates, leaving nothing but the brittle mineral frame behind. But even that shell won’t last forever.

In a hundred years, the last of your bones will have collapsed into dust, and only the most durable part of your body, such as teeth, grave wax and some nylon threads. This may seem like a scary thought, but at least it won’t happen for another hundred years, so don’t worry too much yet.

Igor, maybe you didn't read the article - Sister Wilhelmina wasn't embalmed!

It all depends on the conditions and environment in which the body was buried. 2400 years and he still had skin, hair and bones. If the Catholic Church had discovered him they’d have declared him a long lost saint and said it was a miracle. A dead religion holding onto dead things and worshiping them. It’s rather wacky.

Just to make it clearer, this nun was not embalmed but buried in a simple wooden coffin with no exterior cover on the coffin. Her body had not decayed at all, nor did her clothes or flowers she held, at least that's what I read.
Some believe it's a sign that she should be made a saint because of her exemplary life while on this earth. A doctor that viewed her body (not examined it) stated there is no logical explanation for what he saw. Her body has now been exposed for several days and she still has not begun to decay.
The Vatican does not take these things lightly. They will conduct their own investigation and form a conclusion and proceed accordingly on whether or not to begin the process of making her a saint or declare all of it an elaborate hoax of some kind.

It's that simple. It's not the first nor will it be the last time something like this has happened to a devout Catholic. Laugh if you like. No one is going to care what you or I think.

BTW, any religion which has 1.3 billion people is hardly dead, with those numbers increasing year to year, not declining.

Jesus makes saints, not the Catholic Church. All true believers are saints. If you are in Christ, you are a saint. The term “saints” appears sixty times in the New Testament alone.

A Saint is simply one who is holy, sacred.

The Church during those times had the authority to name saints.

The Catholic Church still believes it does.

Those Saints are merely people who The Church believes, deserves our extra attention as good examples.

They too are defective sinful humans .

Don't put too much emphasis on the word saint.
More on their stories.

Its not a catholic miracle its for everyone. It hasn't just happened in the Catholic church but also the eastern orthodox church who have also had some. There have been over 250 of these bodies since Christ was resurrected. You can go online and view many. You have to live a Saintly life so there are very few.Its for you to believe or not believe.

These aren’t miracles. If they opened the coffins and these people were alive then that would be a miracle.
This is nothing. If you look closely at the pictures of this nun in the article you can see she has a coating of wax applied to her face and hands. Pay really close attention to her right hand and you can see two of her fingers that appear to be fused together. This isn’t a miracle it’s simply a a dead body they’ve put on public display.
