Do you ever try to imagine the desired outcome in your mind, in the form of mental "pictures"?
As an example, if you are sick, and want to be well:
while you are praying do you imagine a scene of you being touched by the Lord, then you being healthy, happy, and well?
Or, do you follow the traditional method: say a bunch of words that seem appropriate, then let it go at that?
Maybe we should be doing both? Do you think it would make any difference? I mean, if it would help, why not?

That's interesting. I never thought of it in that way. I pray with the utmost confidence that His will be done.

I imagine myself bowing before a large...I mean immense throne...but I can't see the "person" sitting on it. The things I usually pray about aren't necessarily tangible that I could visualize....except when I pray for people...then they pop in my head.

I never really thought about it, before, so I went to prayer I found that the instant I closed my eyes, I was just in a peaceful state of mind, I was comfortable, relaxed and a bit happy that I was about to talk to a loved one on a very personal level. One who knows me better than anyone, even myself..I don't prepare myself, don't imagine any imagery or anything..Just me and my Lord, but of course I don't see him..The only visibles are those little dancing lights you see when your eyes are closed

I have used visualization in the past in praying to God, when I have gone through something very difficult. I use to internalize negativity from others a lot, to the point of being ill, so I use to visualize Jesus standing above me, covering me with His love, with a shield, so that no negativity could penetrate. I would hold this image in my mind until I felt peace and strength. I would also visualize myself walking beside Him and speaking to Him as the sun was setting. I plan to do more visualization. God bless.

Closing your eyes does eliminate all distractions around you. Closing them after I had laser surgery in my eye gave me all kinds of sparkling lights . With closed eyes, I can really get into a conversation with God. I have seen myself in the palms of His Hands.
