I've taken to reading the Bible daily now for quite some time.
I used to read it once per week to get ready for the
Saturday/Sunday liturgy.
I used to go to church on TV only because I felt alienated
by the congregants. Now, though, I've been going around
visiting all the churches...stopping in to see how they do things.
I've noticed that most congregations are very, very shy.
I'd like to think that, anyway.
No. I presume you are talking about the New Testament. I once took a college class, for one semester, about what the New Testament teaches. I've had a lot of absorption of what is in the Bible over the years, especially since 3 readings at every Sunday Mass come from it (1 OT, 1 NT, and 1 Gospel). I think I'm at the point where the tea bag has steeped for a good, long time and I should have a good moral and ethical compass by now. Plus, I have to read so much for work that I don't like to read anything in my free time.
I do read the bible everyday...trying to get through it in one year
BUT...I was told by my FIL that I "take the bible too seriously" and that I "take the fantasy out of it". He thinks you should be able to get lost in the bible like you do a good movie. I agree with him on that.
He has never read it.
Yeah almost daily, either from my NIV or one of ny devotion/inspiration books..I don't have a set time nor do I think about scheduling a time..I just pick it up when I feel an "urge" to do so...Sometimes it is just a couple minutes, and usually it is from the gospels, parables or psalms..if I go to the epistes, I am usually drawn to Romans.Ephesians or Galations..
...in all honesty........no...........not every single day of my life...sometimes circumstances prevent me from sitting down and feasting upon it...but I can't wait to get back in it!...
But the real question is, how many actually STUDY it?
You raise a very good point. Actually, I've been trying to figure out what I was going to do this year. Last year I went through my Daily Walk Bible (Bible in a Year). This year I'd like to do something more in depth...so I will do a study of the Book of James through Kay Arthur's, "The New Inductive Study Series". I went through 1 John this way a year or so ago, and got so much out of it...so thanks for the gentle reminder Deguire!
