To enable us to objectively verify the truthfulness of their accounts. The Bible, from earliest times, states that judgment in a court of law was not to be made against a person based on the testimony of a single eyewitness but that two or three as a minimum number were required(Deut.19:15). Even so, having different accounts of the person and earthly ministry of Jesus Christ enables us to assess the accuracy of the information we have concerning Him.

So..........God gave us four Gospels so that they might lead us to Christ. There is only one Christ! The four Gospels all point to the same blessed Person whom God wants us to know. We need to see all four Gospels together, just as you would look at the four photos of a friend to better see what that one person really looks like. All four are needed to give us a correct understanding of who Jesus is and what He is like!

And that is the Gospel truth....

Very true. We all can go look at a movie for example and remember certain points while the other person will note something else from a personal perspective. Putting them all together provides a complete picture.

Except that the Gospels agree on some things and differ significantly on other important events in Christ's life such as His baptism and resurrection.

Well I was looking for a reason.. specific -

3 was not enough - 5 was too many !! (joke) !!

Matthew's gospel was written to the Jews.. to prove / show CHRIST was indeed the one whom the prophets spokke about - 38 times in that gospel it states.. " as was prophesized by Esias (Isaiah)

Marks Gospel (the shortest) was written to show Jesus as a "servant" of man.

Lukes Gospel was written by a doctor to show Jesus as a man.

Johns Gospel was written to show that Jesus was indeed GOD !!

Ok, next is this one which I will admit that I googled my answer. So not sure if I'm even in the ballpark.

I say that the reason there are 4 gospels is because they were geared towards 4 different audiences!

If this is the case, do I get extra credit for naming the audiences

Because Constantine decided to have four gospels. He gathered only those Christians whom he found usefull and had them convene a council to decide what Christianity should be in Nicea. Using what they agreed on, the Nicene Creed, they assembled a single collection of books and declared that and that alone to be the word of god...this collection also included two books, The Shepard of Hermas and the Epistle of Barnabas were in that same bible, but taken out later for unknown reason.

Well, there were other Christians who had just as valid gospels which were not included in the Bible. They, however, did not enjoy the favor of Constantine, a mass murderer and all around despot btw, and he suppressed them. The Bible we have today was the result of a man named Irenaeus, a Christian Bishop who was taught by Polycarp who was allegedly a student of Paul...However, Irenaeus himself admitted that one of his greatest rivals, a man who was a Gnostic and had different Gospels then the four found in the modern bible was Simon Magus, a man who was mentioned in Acts and was a companion of the Apostles.

So, the modern Bible is the result of a group of Christians having the favor of a despot who only wanted one story told, while the other Christians were oppressed, their books burned, and themselves hunted down and massacred by the same "church fathers" who were "guided by the Holy Spirit" even though though they, the none Nicene Christians, had just as valid Apostolic Succession and just as valid Gospels.

So, that is why there are four Gospels in the "true Bible".

But perhaps the book of GOD It's Self is not the book found at a Wal-Mart today but is instead the books that MEN THEMSELVES had banned a thousand years ago?
