Tony3, all of those Bible passages were written by people just like you. No better, no worse. They are just expressing their ideas, which may or may not be correct.

If you believe that Jesus is divine, then I think you can let him alone guide you through life.

The Bible has some good stuff in it, but I would not take it too seriously.

I'm sorry but can you explain to me how any of the above gives you the character of Jesus Christ ?. You cannot hold onto any of the beliefs you keep posting without sitting in judgement or condemation of another. Try seeing beyond a believer that is not baptized, that doesn't dress how you think is becoming, that doesn't go to church on the day you believe is the sabbath and all the rest of the creed you have set up. Remember God does not look upon outward appearance, which includes how often you read the bible and how often you claim to 100% believe it.

I would say that the Bible probably fails miserably to capture the true character of Jesus. I see no admirable character in any of the throngs of Bible believing and Bible following Christians I have met, treated and encountered, not to mention associated with when I was younger. I think the living example of the Bible movement today speaks volumes to the overall failure of the bible based movement. A bad example, embodied by the ignorance and social failure of of the evangelical/conservative movement, is the best testimony to the absence of the "true character of Jesus."

There is a concept that exist in a few select circles. It is not prevalent or accepted by many of the Bible based religions, because with it, a person would not need the Bible or the religious social club surrounding it. That concept is called the "Christ consciousness" It parallels very closely, but not exactly the concept of "enlightenment" in Buddhism and "Self Actualization" in psychology. it exists when the person reaches the apex of human and spiritual thought. If the true character of Jesus is present, then it would have to be as embodied in the concept of the "Christ consciousness."
As I mentioned, it does not seem to exist in Biblian circles. Which is why a plethora of Humanists like myself opt for a life bigger and better than that of the bible followers. We look at those who follow a poor example and know better than to let our fear and insecurities channel us into it. We make the bold and healthy decision to say "No, Thank You" and walk away.

Well, it's true that the character of Jesus is not found in the doctrines and dogmas different people have derived from their reading and their perceptions, however it may be shown in individual believers and even groups that are doing good work in helping the helpless, etc.

I hope when you choose to walk "away" you also choose to walk "toward" some kinds of associations that do the same.
