I had a sad and rewarding experience with a cat from the Humane Society. We lost our cat to a fox so I have been popping into our shelter to look for a new cat. I finally found one that was 10 weeks had all her vaccines and was spayed. She was so cute and really made an impression when I walked in that day.

I chose to take her home, we had noticed she was very small and not putting on weight. I have dealt with skinny animals, so I wasn't real concerned and she was playful and eating a lot. She loved it when I fed the dogs at night, she wanted some of their food, she was starting to lay with 2 of my Shepherds, they are both over 100 pounds it was a sight.

Last weekend she wasn't walking well and it seemed to be an effort for her to move. It was late in the day so I thought I'll just take her to the vet in the morning, by morning her eyes were so dilated and they were HUGE and she was swaying side to side as she walked.

The vet kept her for 2 hours and ran a blood test and it showed that her organs were not developing and her blood % was 17% she needed a transfusion. Instead of 8 lbs., she was 4 lbs. The vet said this is were we needed to start to even begin to precede and even after that she was half the weight and with her organs not developed right she probably wouldn't survive. She said it was a birth defect and nothing I did would help her to live.

I made the awful decision to put her to sleep. We only had her 3 months. I have had a lot of animals die, but she was different she really touched my heart and she was so young. Do you think God puts animals in or lives even if it's for a short while or was it just coincidence? Now if I can just get over the loss and move on. So glad there are tomorrows.
In the last 2 years my animals experiences have been challenging.

I think that God brings animals into our lives to minister to us when we need something very special that we just can't get from the people we know..

Animals bring love to the unloved
Animals bring joy to the unhappy
Aniimals bring companionship to the lonely
Animals bring sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, and things to the paralyzed...

In my opinion, God makes use of His animals by making them useful to His humans

I find it hard to believe that animals don't have souls, and have gotten mad at God for letting them die, as what's the point if they don't have souls anyway. Maybe it builds character, I don't know. I'm sure there is a plan. Very sad about your pet, but at least she lived her life, however short, in a loving family and not in a cage.

I'm thinking she needed me more then I needed her. I actually only picked her because she was spayed and I need a good mouser. She looked at me that day and it was a strange connection. Just the way I went about looking for a certain cat, she was not the prettiest or the biggest. She was plan, but a personality like no other female cat I have had.

Oh, well if all dogs go to heaven, then all cats must too!! Thanks blue for you comments.

The world would be a boring place without them and I will probably continue to get my heart broken with each furry loss. It's worth all the time and effort for the comfort they give to me.

as with people...

sometimes they come into our lives because WE need them...

sometimes because THEY need us.

As a mom to 8 cats (none of which can catch a mouse to save their lives!) and a 175 pound dog, I can fully sympathize. My oldest (and favorite kitty) Janie is nearly 12 years old. Her sight is going, as is her hearing. When its her time to go, I will be heartbroken.

Several years ago we had gotten a little kitten at the flea market (at the time we had 2 kitties, not 8!). Seemingly healthy and loving and playful, she dies a few weeks later, before we had even had the chance to take her to the vet. Our consolation was that while she was with us, she was in a loving home. We buried her in the backyard, wrapped in my husbands shirt which she slept on all the time.

You gave her a warm and loving home to spend what short life she had. What better gift to give a sweet animal!

Not really. "Get over the loss and move on"? I'm confused?

Didn't we have this topic before? Anyway, one more time for those that didn't get it. God gave us animals and we have dominion over them.

"And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."
(Genesis 1:24-31)

What does dominion mean? Radah (raw-daw') to tread down, i.e. subjugate; specifically, have dominion, prevail against, reign, (bear, make to) rule,(-r, over), take.

We can do as we wish with animals. They don't have a soul, and they do not go to heaven. They are one aspect of God's creative abilities but possess no value as humans do and this idea of elevation and worship of animals as we see happening today is totally strange, and in some cases perverted slighting God's order.

"Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
(Romans 1:25)

I see where you are coming from, and everyone has seen people treat animals better than humans.
To me domesticated animals are different than wild or stock animals. We are to have dominion, but in all things our loving and kind nature should be primary.
Domesticated animals can bring out love and tenderness in a otherwise empty or bitter life, the energy doesn't lie, and the healing process can be quickened by it.
God does note a sparrows fall, so they are counted.
The strange one is when people take on the traits or looks of their animals, the bond can definitely be too close, but i think it is filled unfortunately in people that may have had difficult human to human relationships.
Not sure where i'm going with this but, love generated and kindness shown is never a bad thing. Whether to man or beast.

godspeed,

freedom

I am not sure that I am qualified to answer whether or not God put this animal in your life or not, Shepard, but I suspect perhaps you have answered your own querie...

She touched your heart; she was different.

I don't know that "love" is ever just "coincidental." I'm not so sure that any of us truly want to believe that anyone or anything we love is merely due to happenstance or coincidence. I love my little dog who sleeps in my lap as I write out this post more than any words that I could possibly write here could ever convey. And while there are many, many human beings in my life whom I love, I can't help but think that the bonds that we create with our animals are equally as cherishable, and unquestionably precious. We do, in fact, love them.

And they love us.

There is no denying you loved your little cat. I don't know that that love should be reduced to the mere label of "coincidence." Did God put your cat in your life? I truly don't know...

But I do suspect that the love that you felt, and continue to feel for her, had to come from somewhere...

I am so very sorry for your sadness, your loss...

Take gentle care.

You are missing my point and my sadness!! It was a joke that all dogs and cats go to HEAVEN. Even though I'd like to think there is a place. My sadness was more involved, the loss of a few animals in the last 2 years, but hey I have moved on I keep getting more. I wasn't trying to say I wasn't going to make it!!

I was asking more of an animal lover, Christian question. You even might have to be a 'Girl' to understand why I asked. It really had NOTHING to do with confirming the CATS place in Heaven.

I have been a Christian too long and I have been an animal lover even longer. I feel sadness is a deserved reward for any animal that you have loved and lost. This was more of "Does God place Animals in Certain Peoples Lives"

I'll you tell a something about God and Creatures, one time I was walking on a nice summer day and a caterpillar crawled in front of me and he had something unusual on his head. I thought caterpillars don't have antennas, so I picked him up and it was a pine needle stuck in his LITTLE head. I pulled it out and sat it down and off he went. Now you tell me God doesn't take care of the creatures!!

Default lessons in love....

It's a very hard decision to make but you made the right decision. I had to make the decision once for a dog I'd owned for 15 years... It was excrutiating for me but he was in pain.

Since you're obviously someone who is capable of loving and caring for animals, I hope you won't let a couple of painful experiences stop you from adopting another homeless animal. So many are in shelters needing homes...

I believe that God cares very much about how we treat animals and all of His creation. He compares us to sheep, the most needy of all farm animals.

His eye is on the sparrow.
