They may have been ignorant concerning their Messiah but certainly new exactly what Gehenna meant ?
So how come us lot who profess to know the Messiah not only don't know what Gehenna means but refuse to acknowledge what it means
Pcamps, I believe our Lord is correct: "no man can receive anything unless it be given him from above." This has been a fairly long road for Birdbrain. I still marvel how the Living One has managed to hide Himself from my gaze until His good timing and purpose has lead me to "see" Him in a fresh dimension. Oh, He can truly work a patience in us for other dorks just like we are.
Simple, because the typical christian reads from greek translations and does NOT dig looking further into the Hebrew to find the TRUE intent of what was being said along with the Hebraic understanding. The Talmadim (apostles) most certainly wrote it that way, and yet (mostly due to the influences of the early church of rome) christians are doomed to mistranslations and misunderstandings. Imagine starting to read from Genesis on, from a Hebrew mindset (as it was written originally) the endless light that would be shed upon scripture.
Like Rav Shaul (Paul) never forsaking following of his roots along with the rest of the Talmadim (contrary to christian teaching) and realizing that the Messiah did NOT teach against Torah but upheld it completely and perfectly. That the Messiah continued to partake of HIS Jewish roots till the very day of HIS death. That the so called "Law" referred to in so much of the Brit Chadash (so called new Testament) which was mostly quotation from the Tanach, the 1st 5 books of Moses, Psalms and Prophets, which is what the Jewish people of the time taught and followed minus the man added legalism of the Pharisees which Messiah fought against. Hmm imagine that, HE didn't come to start a new religion but bring HIS people, the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel and the Hebrew understandings to fullness. Gee what a concept. Huh and to think it's all right there in print in the Hebrew and Aramaic. Who would have thought.
Its interesting to note all that is believed about Geheena by the Jews is based on midrash and talmud ... The talmud is exposition of Jewsish oral traditions since the Babylonian captivity, untill they were finally written down in the 2nd and 5th century CE.
Birdy -
That was interesting. Now I have read The Torah, the Prophets, the histories and the other writings, but most of what you wrote, I haven't seen. Where did you pull all these points from? A few looked like points from the New Testament, did you use that also? Thank you for all the work you put in.
