I wanted the Christian perspective on this so I put it in the Christian forum. I have always wondered of we could take the word's of Jesus and live by them and be saved. (without the rest of the Bible) I don't feel like looking it up but aren't we supposed to "go out and preach the gospel..."? And isn't the gospel the death, burial, and resurection? So why do we preach the gospel....and the OT...(SOME of the OT anyhow...whatever is convienient)...and the epistles? I never understood why churches take the words from letters written to certain groups of people and use them as a basis for I guess you could say "the rules" of Christianity.

Love God and your neighbour

Loving God instills a feeling of piety, fear of sin and fear of God.

Love for the neighbour basically circumvents the remaining 8 of the old testament.

Christ is good at precis writing I mean who else can condense the 10 commandments so good?

IMO one can only know of the 4 gospels, has read them and believes them, believes John 3:16, tries to live as Jesus taught us by his example, and follow the commandment of love that He gave us..Everything we need to know of God, Son and Holy Spirit, and how to receive and return to God are in the 4 gospels..The OT is the history of mans search for God and the prophecies of the coming of the savior..The Epistles are the historical account of the beginnings of the church and Revelations was written to comfort the church during the terrible destruction of Jerusalem..It was to encourage them that goodness would eventually overcome the evilness of the day..IMO revelations has been fulfilled except for the return of Christ which no one knows the time or day and should not be making predictions about it but should be following the teachings and examples of Christ not out of fear but out of love..

That's my two cents, DaniMae

Jesus said, "it is written", "have you not read", "If you read scripture you will know it talks about me" The bible is an ongoing revelation. If they didn't read all of scripture then they wouldn't know Jesus was comiing

It's all or nothing. Some say the OT is outdated, but the truth of the OT transcends through time. The blood of Jesus is throughout entire Bible like a scarlet thread.

I once heard a message about being a 'red letter Christian', in other words, taking some time and reading just the words of Christ in the Gospels.

Colossus_Antonis said it succinctly above.
