I am really working on reading my bible but I seem to be all over the place with no real plan on where to start.
I don't know if that makes any sense or not.
What I am asking is if you can help me develop a good plan for reading the bible. I try to read a little every day but I want to get a good foundation instead of being all over the place.
I am a Christian and am looking to grow more in my faith.
Approach the Bible from a historical point of view.
It's more interesting and more inspiring.
For example, the circumstances that Paul was in when he wrote those epistles.
His long journeys and how he evaded trouble, slept in the deserts, fed on locusts and was finally arrested and tried.
There are tons of books on Amazon. After reading all these, the Acts and the Epistles make more sense and really pumps anyone up with inspiration.
Also, another example is the compulsion which led Irenaeus to finally decide which books to include in the Bible and what else was heresy. The background lives of the Early Fathers and their frugal living puts the most formidable foundation to one's Christian faith, over which the Bible stands tall and firm, a lasting effect to the grave.
That's how I got my faith. This is a personal testimony
What I am asking is if you can help me develop a good plan for reading the bible.
What you are looking for is a good study Bible, or a good student Bible.
I suggest hat you go to a Christian Bookstore and ask to see the study/student bibles and then have a look at all of them and see what one looks the best to you.
Most new student or study bibles have something on the outside cover that shows you what the insides are like.
Have a look and see what one looks the most easy for you to read and understand.
If you read about 5 chapters a day-you can finish the whole Bible in one year. But as a stone cannot sharpen itself-I recommend you do also study it with those who know it and offer free Bible studies.

I stumbled across a couple of awesome resources recently. One is a reading plan for new believers. It's not a complete reading plan, but it has some good advice for someone starting on the adventure, plus it gives a link to the Scripture reading. You can even get this reading plan formatted for Formatted for cell phones,
iPhones, and smart phones. Here's the link: Chronological Bible Reading Schedule - New Believer
The second site presents five different reading plans, in over 50 different translations. It links to the pertinent Scriptures, plus it lets one choose the time of year he's starting the plan. The goal is to read the entire Bible in one year. Here's the link: Read the Bible in One Year
If I recall correctly, both these sites keep tabs on where you are in your reading, so all you have to do is click on the next Scripture. They make it extremely easy to get into the Word as long as you don't mind doing it online. If you don't like the online aspect, copy the reading plan and go from there.
I first read the whole New Testament twice in few months or weeks, can't remember; in the order they are in the bible.
then I read the whole Old Testmanent in the Jewish order (Jewish translation, same content but different order; Torah, Prophets, Minor Prophets, Writings)
Thank you so much for the suggestions. These definitely help!
