From a distance, Cornville Road and 89A, the statue looks like it is part of the newly built Catholic Church. Perhaps that part of 89A can be a church row. The location is convenient for most of the Verde Valley. Let all denominations buy land and build in that area.
zonababe,

This is not a matter of a country that respects freedom of worship. It's about a country that respects the law. No one person or group is above the law. This statue was erected based on a temporary permit, which called for the removal 1 week after the "parks" dedication. He now wants to light it up...... Ilchi Lee never had any intention to comply with the codes or permits he took out with P\Z. For this reason alone, this statue should come down.

Just because a individual or group of people call something a "religion", doesn't make it so. There was a case where a person (who on their own private land) erected a "park" dedicated to Hitler. He had building which housed statues of Hitler and Nazi flags. Outside there was other memorials that were to be dedicated to Nazism and Hitler. He was ultimatly forced to close it due to violations to land usage codes.

Another reason this is being objected to...is that the majority of those in favor of that, aren't local residents. Ilchi Lee has bussed in supporters from PHX and others are from other states if not countries. This is not like you trying to paint this as local people building a church, that is ingeneous.

Ilchi Lee had no intention of removing this after the dedication of the park and isn't fooling anybody about his intentions....only perhaps the niave.

People who do not respect the law, do not deserve respect.

:::::::::: If my info is correct, this is not on private land. It's on land that was leased from the city::::::::::::::

From a spiritual view:

1. Mago isn't a god, or a deity....this statue is a piece of plastic (or stone). It's a image of a false god who people use that mocks the true God.

2. Those who idol worship have never met happy ending. God will not be mocked. He will judge them for their evil.

3. What this shows is how desperate (or blinded) people are in seeking the truth.

How true! There are certain elements of our society that would like to make a religion out of worshiping "mother earth". There is a considerable difference between being "green", and being radical. Listen to what this extremist "earther" said:

Quote: "The earth is literally our mother, not only because we depend on her for nurture and shelter but even more because the human species has been shaped by her in the womb of evolution. Our salvation depends upon our ability to create a religion of nature." Unquote
- Rene Dubos, board member Planetary Citizens.

A "religion of nature"? Unfortunately, that person is not alone in their thinking, there are thousands more with similar thought.
I dearly love nature myself, but it's wrong to make a religion of it, to worship the created, rather than the Creator...

Can you site where the temporary permit was to expire one week after the ceremony?
Mr Lee can invite people from all over the world, why would that bother you? Are you saying that people with a different point of view can't visit the area or be your neighbor? Now you're comparing the Mago statue to a park built to honor Hitler? You are way off base. Your beliefs are no more important or true than those who choose to believe in Hinduism or any other religion.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this shakes out.

Because it's none of their business and in their backyard.

No, but those who believe in aliens and vortex's and leftover 60's hippies have place for this statue.... it's called Sedona.

No, but your misunderstanding is understandable. The Hitler park was taken down because sane people prevailed......and yes, if you want to draw the conclusion that IMO Mago believers are insane, that is fine with me......... it is America, right?

But they are. My beliefs are based on the living God, the Mago is a bunch of imported sections of plastic from South Korea. Jesus and the Bible are\is the truth

I'm hoping that the local residents who where not allowed in the meeting due over capacity (because Lee bussed in supporters) get their right to voice their opinion.

What should happen is conserative, anti-Mago people be bussed in before the Magoo-ers do and fill the meeting. Then we can be tone deaf to about being racial, unfair tatics by conservative Christians

Twinspin, I'm sure there are structures in Cottonwood that exceed fifty feet. The radio station tower on 89A by Bridgeport might be taller than fifty feet. If anything happens at the meeting, Lee might have to remove the statue from the ten foot pedestal, allowing the statue to stand at thirty nine feet tall. Mr Lee is already an established business owner and brings tourist dollars to the community.

If people listened to your way of thinking, we wouldn't have the Statue of Liberty or Mount Rushmore. Have you complained about the towering Kokopelli, considered a landmark in Camp Verde? I don't think your gripe is about the statue, your discord is about one of the many religions who don't praise your God. Don't waste your time going to the meeting, as the Planning and Zoning Board won't be picking a god for all to worship.

"Have you complained about the towering Kokopelli considered a landmark in Camp Verde"

No because that isn't a issue that Cottonwood has any contol over, that is for those who live in Camp Verde.

"Don't waste your time time going to the meeting"....? No chance of that happening. That is exactly what Mr Lee and his bussed in followers are counting on.

"Planning and Zoning Board won't be picking a god for all to worship"

No da.... Their job is to enforce the codes established and not cater to people who deliberatly misuse and abuse codes under the name of "religion" for fear of being called names by "tolerant liberals"

You have not proven how anyone has misused or abused codes. Lee was granted the temporary permit. So far, no wrong doing just a different belief system from yours.

Mago Retreat facing county zoning violation

The Yavapai County Land Use Code Enforcement Division has filed a notice of violation and summons to a hearing Feb. 12 in Prescott.....The complaint alleges the commercial rental of rooms at the retreat site, which boasts over 100 apartments. Enforcement Supervisor Boyce McDonald said that the hearing responds to a complaint and investigation that the retreat is conducting commercial activities that go well beyond the permit allowed to a religious institution.................

Earth Park must take down Mago statue

When two hours of public comment was completed, some of the commissioners questioned the apparent conflicts. They questioned how the proportion was appropriate in the larger statue, but not in the smaller proposal. They also questioned the matter about religious exemptions, when the Fellowship has indicated its ultimate plan might include a hotel, restaurant and gift shop.

Thanks for the update. After doing a little more research on Lee's organizations, I'm happy to see the out come. Did you watch the three part series on CNN regarding Lee?
