Oh i know! i know!!!!!
he's buying a lot S*&* for himself and maybe a portion goes to the "needy".
Maybe he just needed another collection of Rolexes for the new year. He does use them as disposable watches after all!
I understand your suspicions based on a lot of the extravagant televangelist lifestyles, but Rick Warren has proven that he is not really in that category.
For instance, despite selling 30+ million copies of his Purpose Driven Life book which equates obviously to millions & millions of $$, he in turn gave back his 25 years of salary he took from Saddleback and going forward committed to being a 'reverse tither' i.e. living on 10% of their income and giving 90% away. Plus he does a lot to fight poverty/AIDS issues around the world. Obviously, we don't know what he does w/every dime nor know anyone's true heart/motives, but from what we can see, he appears to be very generous and not all about the lifestyle.
You mean faithful to give to the church that builds them their christian entertainment centers?
That is a cynical approach. I do agree that chuches can cut down on certian expenditures but Saddleback does alot of good work in the world. It costs money to do these things.

They all do some good....but why beg for money? Didn't Jesus specifically tell us to TRUST GOD FOR OUR PROVISION?
The question is.....what do you think he's doing with it?
I didn't expect an answer, as you are too cynical to really think clearly.
This article tells how the church plans to spend the money.
Calif. pastor takes in $2.4M after donations plea - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100103/ap_on_re_us/us_rick_warren_donations - broken link)
The letter cited the church's accomplishments in 2009 and detailed how the donations would be used, including the church's food pantry, homeless ministry, counseling and support groups.
Warren made similar pleas after Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Asian tsunami, raising $1.7 million and $1.6 million from Saddleback parishioners.
Honestly my guess is that the church does lots of good work. However, it always makes me really suspicious when a preacher says "We need X amount of money now"...
Get someone in their finance dept that knows how to budget..
Per the link above,
The posting on Warren's Web site read: "With 10 percent of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated."

Yeah. The recession happened in an instant. Bam.
Uhh no. Writing was on the wall in early January 09. Jobs are a lagging economic indicator.. which means by all accounts the leading indicators all would have pointed at job loss.
so yeah.. like I said. They need someone who can actually budget..

Point taken. However, wasn't it great how God's people responded? No gift over a $100 & now the church can start the year in the black. And more importantly, they can continue to minister to their community.
