The Royals might be worth another whole thread. I have lots of memories of them. Once, I went the a game and Hank Aaron was in stands. Got his autograph, and still have it. Loved Jack Twyman, and, of course, the big O, Oscar Robertson.

Can't forget Celtics great Bob Cousy, who ended his career with the Royals.
What I remember most about the Gardens has to do with ice: P & G sponsored an employee appreciation day at "Holiday on Ice" for many years, and the Goyguy family was always there for it. Then there was the Jack Frost Club, whose members had access to what I believe must've been a separate rink on the Norwood side of the building.
I also saw more than one circus at 2250 Seymour.
The Gardens is still very much alive, having undergone renovation, and at least until the Cintas Center was completed was the home court for Xavier's basketball team.
What's not so alive is the section of Cincinnati nearby, but Swifton is reviving in its new incarnation as "Jordan Crossing," and there's a subdivision called "Villages of Daybreak" where Swifton Village's brick boxes once stood. A big new campus for Woodward has opened, but it'll take more than state-of-the-art facilities to bring that school back. But hope springs eternal on all counts.

I was reading this thread and thought I'd let everyone know that the Frisch's on Reading Rd in Roselawn (across from the Carrousel) has closed.

Died at the age of 48. The funeral was several months ago. It was given a decent burial along the likes of Saxon's, Dick Porfidio's Wishing Well, the Upper Crust, Howard Johnson's, Parkmoor, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Al Morse's Ribs King, et.al.

That does it! With the passing of the mainliner I am officially old. I spent soooo many Friday nights there, in vain attempts at picking up girls. Probably competed with goyguy for them.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time tagging along with my sister in her new Mustang back in 65/66. I'm sure she enjoyed her 6 year old little brother hanging out with her..

was she pretending to be babysitting? Seems like I saw quite a few little brothers in back seats at Frisch's in the late 60s? Did she buy you a milkshake? I loved those at Frisch's!

Frisch's wasn't "where it's at" on Reading Rd as much as Perkins was, at least for us stuck-up Wyoming kids (lol.)

That explains it!! Pancakes do not make the ideal drive-in food.

BTW, my high school girlfriend was from Wyoming (and stuck up she was)

Guess our crowd wasn't stuck-up enough: we haunted Chili Time, just
up the road. On at least one occasion, we stayed until closing at
4:00, then came back two hours later, when the morning shift opened
for breakfast. Beside the rejuvenating qualities of Cincinnati chili,
the store offered a bustle and a diverse clientele unmatched elswhere
on Reading Road at that hour.

As for Perkins, well, they should have stuck their strong suit: pancakes.
