Sarah... I agree the major realtor sites have very good search capabilitites. When you see an interesting candidate call the address up on Google Earth and get a good view of the immediate surroundings. If still interested, go to the local country web site and look the property up for tax evaluation, tax history, and on some sales history. Time spent in this way can be very informative.

UPDATE!

Thanks again for all the responses. I've now made several trips to the area, and after looking at houses from Newport to Hyde Park to Westwood (and in between), I have decided to buy a condo-townhouse! So that process has begun. I like Hyde Park down to Eden Park, but am open to other areas as well. I just love the downtown feel of Cincinnati. I went to my first "Final Friday"..what a hoot! Thanks again for your help on the house hunt. Any suggestions on the best place for buying a condo near a good walking park or green belt? Or at least a high walking index?

To my mind one of the coolest things about Cincinnati is the hilly terrain, and along with that and with being a fairly old city, there are a lot of what the realtors call "pocket neighborhoods" in all different price ranges. Hubby and I've had the luxury of time to just drive around a lot since we moved here. Embarrassingly, it's a favorite recreational activity, even though the price of gas has gone up. I guess we need to get a life. We cruised the Rollman Estate off East Galbraith the other day. Houses I would guess in the $700K to $2 million range? A lot of ugly architecture, but big, big, big.
