Ground-breaking at Showcase Cinema on Reading (Cincinnati, Norwood: sale, salons, house)

Yesterday, we were driving by

There was a big event going on, gospel music, a big tent. So I had my husband pull over and ask what was going on. Because of the ambient noise, I couldn't quite hear the answer, but the fellow said it was a groundbreaking. I thought I heard for Rumpke, but then I thought maybe he said for Remke. Figured I would look it up when I got home. But I couldn't find anything online. So then I thought maybe it was an employee-only party.

Anyone know what's going in there? I even tried to identify the parcel/owner on the auditor's website with no luck.

The cineplex was closed and torn down a couple of years ago. (RIP) A big sign along the Norwood Lateral, on the westbound side, has announced for some time that the Corinthian Baptist Church will be relocating to that land from their longtime home in southern Avondale. With the size and scale of megachurches (as well as some mainstream ones) in the Sunbelt being what they are, I figured they'd be taking over the entire parcel. But a Remke store as well as a substantially proportioned house of worship could easily share the space - it's a HUGE plot of land.
Cincinnatians "of a certain age" will always recall that location as that of the Twin Drive-In no matter what's there. Talk to anybody who's in their mid-forties or farther along, who grew up in Paddock Hills, and they'll probably tell you exactly which movies they saw for free from their back windows at home.
One thing's for sure, "Showcase Drive" is outta there as the name of that side street before long.
Church relo's are far from unusual in Cincinnati's AA faith communities. Allen Temple AME even moved from downtown to no less than the old Swifton Shopping Center. (Ever wonder why there's that large cross at the northwest corner of the former mall building? Now you know. As for the "Jordan Crossing" name, I love it for all its symbolism but it's actually in honor of a longtime pastor of the church.) Earlier this year, New Prospect Baptist - presently in OTR - purchased the former Jewish Community Center in Roselawn, which had shed the last vestige of its past not too long ago and had more recently housed a charter school. According to the Roselawn Community Council Website which I read, uh, religiously, congregants are busily cleaning up the property - which sorely needed it - and dropping "prayer request cards" in neighborhood mailboxes. They'll soon be holding a "giant yard sale" to help fund the purchase too. (Nothing beats a church rummage sale for "finds" at crazy prices. Tell 'em goyguy sent'cha!)

A "for-profit" educational institution is one of the last things a struggling neighborhood needs, along with any more hair/nail salons, fast-food joints, and check cashing rackets. With retail vacancy rates being what they are along Reading, Paddock, and Montgomery Rd's there isn't exactly a clamoring afoot for any more available space. Why isn't Kroger leaping at the chance to open a store after they pulled out of Roselawn? (Never mind, I know the answers to that one.)
BUT, it was heartening to see that the property had been purchased to keep it from being an eyesore for decades to come.

I agree about the for-profit college. Just another big tube sucking money away from the gullible and giving very little in return.
