I just moved to the Hyde Park area and wanted to check out the Ault Park fireworks tomorrow night. I mapquested from my house to the park and it looks to be about a 2 mile walk that I'd prefer not to do at 10:30pm after the fireworks end.

Anyone know other viewing locations to the west of the actual park where we could lay out a blanket and check out the show?

Certainly you are safe to walk 2.5 miles west from the park at any time, 3am even. That takes you to the Regency at Madison and Observatory. Safe every step.

But why not park at Biggs in HP Plaza and walk up Marburg, then up Pinehurst then into the park?

The Fireworks are not so visible from the west at least more west than my house which is about 1500 feet due west from the pavilion. That is because the pavilion is about 60 feet lower than the highest point to the west so when you go a mile or so west, you have the Observatory peak in your way.

I'd hate to send you somewhere that you could not see the fireworks, but it looks to me as though Otto Armleder Park, about 4000 feet to the south might have a view. I am not at all certian bout this though because it is 250 feet below the park and there is a little rise on the south side of the park. If all else fails, swing down Wooster Pike and if you see a crowd at the dog park (Armleder) then its a go. I have some doubts though and wouldn't chance it if it was my first trip.

My experience with Hamilton's fireworks met or actually exceeded my expectations. We went a bit early, finding a parking place was easy, lots of people but not crowded because the riverfront area is so large, great view of the fireworks which lasted about 20 or 25 minutes. The show wasn't huge, but it was respectable. There was a minor traffic jam afterwards, but we were completely out of town within 15 minutes. If avoiding traffic, hassles and being packed into a crowd like sardines is a priority, I recommend it. We'll be going back next year.

Mason also had a respectable show last night although toned down. I read someone donated the money for the fireworks, but I can't remember who. The large festival with overpaid has-been rock bands was absent this year as the city's funding was eliminated. The fireworks were set off this year from the area where they typically have the portable band stages placed. Don't know why but it put them near the edge of the park behind my house - very loud. Judged by the lack of parking on the streets in my neighborhood the attendance was way down. In some respects to me this is good.

We went to see the Cincinnati Pops at Riverbend for the 4th. Tickets were very reasonable and the show was great. The fireworks were just okay.

Get there early and park in Kilgour's lot on Linwood. You will have to walk in but it's only about a quarter mile.

I've got 2 young kids so I was hoping to avoid walking and the crowds at the park. Do you think you can view them from the Kilgour lot?

Go to Kilgour and set up on the field. Very few people there, good view. I walk up there from my house every year. Group of maybe 20 does it. Not sure why more dont. You miss the lowest fireworks but everything else is perfect.

Sounds like a good recommendation. And I guess we are at that Firework time of year again, aren't we.
