Yup - the name was a highly elided version of "Food for the body". Early 1970's? Can't recall where it was - maybe Ridge near Montgomery?

Could be the restaurant on the west side of Montgomery Rd at the northern end of the business district, which has gone through several name changes but is still a veggie/vegan place. Today it's known as "The Loving Hut."

...and if they're closed, there's Emanu down the block (at the corner of Ridge, same side of the street) for Ethiopian cuisine. It's heavy on the veggies, and spice skimping definitely doesn't happen. Funny thing 'bout P-Ridge, the healthful places have odd-numbered addresses and the guilty-pleasure ones are on the even-numbered side of the street. For guilty pleasures, it doesn't get better than the 1-2-3 punch of Pleasant Ridge Chili, Burger King, and - for a good hamburger and outta-this-world waffle fries - the Gas Light. But let's not forget Molly Malone's, on the "healthy" side of Montgomery, for some libation before and after polishing the gastronomic halo if you're staying within the odd digits.
In days long gone by, we who are at least sometimes earthy-crunchy inclined also haunted New World Foods. They were a restaurant and grocery store scrunched into a single retail space on the south side of Ludlow Ave in Clifton near the Esquire Theater. At present, the place to go in the city is Amma's Kitchen on Reading Rd if you don't consume anything that once crawled or walked or swam. They're so good that I hit their lunch buffet two days in a row the last time I was in town. It's all vegetarian, all the time, there - and strictly vegan every Wednesday.

Fo Fo the Bo (Food For the Body) was a vegetarian restaurant located on Vine St. (or maybe 7th, 8th, or 9th) near the Public Library in the 1970s. Lots of us folks who worked at the Main Library used to eat there. I went to school with the Tape siblings, two of whom (Dave and Barb) were connected to the restaurant. Dave went on to manage Mullane's. Now he and Mary Kroner will spearhead a new restaurant in Northside - Ruth's Parkside.
