I will be moving to Cincy in a month or so for a new position with a large company in the Cincy area. The office is actaully in Ft Thomas, KY. But, I want to live in an area that is walkable. I am am moving from Chicago...and while I realize that there probably is no area quite like Chicago in Cincy, I would like to at least settle in an area where I can park my car on the weekend and hopefully not start it up again until Monday morning. I will be looking for a single family home (up to $350K budget), no kids to worry about at this time...I'm a single dude in my mid 30's, fenced back yard for my dogs, OK commute to Ft Thomas. I like to get out to a pub or bar or nice restaurant on the weekends.

So, what neighborhood is right for me? How is the commute from that neighborhood to Ft Thomas? What are some of the hang outs suitable for a single man in his mid 30's in that area?

Thanks for the help!

Why not consider Fort Thomas itself. There has to be some property along the river which is decent with a good view. You can take a Tank bus to Newport or Covington and walk your feet off, including across the people bridge to Cincinnati. Soon you will be able to take the streetcar all over downtown Cincinnati. The next expansion may even go over to Covington or Newport. To me there is nothing comparable to a commute which is just a roll out of bed.

For years I commuted from Mason to Norwood. Then I got lucky and my company relocated their new facility to Mason. I could have easily walked it, but prefered the about 4 minute drive. Best 20 years of my working life. If I had to do it over again, it would have been that way from the beginning.

Downtown - CBD - or CUF (lot of college kids but cool place) - or Clifton Gaslight.

OP you need the clifton university kids lifestyle like you need a hole in the head. I doubt the CBD apartments are going to be overly friendly to your dogs, and your dogs will likely tell you that in short order.

Start out in Fort Thomas and fan outward. I would stay on the KY side of the river just to minimize the commute. Whether the immediate neigborhood itself is walkable or not is only of concern to exercising your dogs. Otherwise you can take a short bus ride to leave the car home and engage R&R.

Apparently, I needed a hole in my head for moving a living where I suggest.

I dont know much about the N KY area. But, it seems like, coming from Chicago, I would prefer a little more density than it appears that you get in the N KY area. I might be totally off on the areas right across the river. But, when I was driving around this past weekend in Ft Thomas, it did not appear to be anywhere I would want to live...

Also, I will be in a single family home with a fenced in yard. That is requirement I will not ditch...

Sounds like Hyde Park -- yeah, there are lots of families there. But it's so walkable, with a real town to walk to & shopping. Upscale for Cinti, if you want that. And a well educated population, for the most part. Mt. Lookout has that feel too & some cool houses for a single guy. Look, I lived in midtown NYC when I was in my 30's, so I think I get you.
Mount Adams, Clifton, Hyde Park - all fit. But buying your 1 person-plus home may be better in Oakley - it's almost Hyde Park, but with an edge, that might even be better.
All have a general just-outside-of-Cinti-central feel. Local stuff & also quick to downtown. Cabbing is easy to any of them after a joyful night out. But you can walk to many a pub in those neighborhoods. NKY - not so much on all points. And none of the OH side of the river neighborhoods offer much of a challenge to get to work.
Anyway, who wants to be that close to where ya work?
Good luck!

There are parts of Covington that may meet your requirements pretty well. Find a realtor who specializes in that area and tell them what you're looking for.

No, he made it perfectly clear he wants a fenced rear yard for his dogs. So we can see where his priorities are.
