We are transferring to Fairfield, Ohio need your input! (Cincinnati: 2013, apartment)

Jewelbaby - there are plenty of places to rent for 6 months to a year while you explore. There are many people renting their homes out versus selling them because of the market. Work with a good relocation realtor who usually has a list of rentals and executive apartments/townhomes.

Your husband will be working in a central location so you have lots of options and it doesn't take that long to get to Milford from the I-275 loop. Someone mentioned Glendale as an option. That is south of the loop but easy access to highways. It's very charming with lots of historic homes. Personally I like Wyoming as another within the loop location. Both of these areas are south of Fairfield.

Loveland is nice in the downtown area. Housing around there vary as you will have someone who takes pride in ownership next to a few that may struggle to cut the grass. Milford is nice. Don't count out that area if you can find something you like. I would cross off Fairfield/WestChester/Mason areas. All are overpopulated with family style homes. As someone in their early 50's and also likes the more established areas, it's more like the "burbs" as you mentioned.

Rent maybe in Mason or West Chester Areas...they are close to Fairfield. I used to live in Fairfield for 5 years. Not familar with Milford I knew a friend that lived out in that area and commuted to Hamilton about 3 years ago and she left at 645am to get to work by 730am. Good Luck..Welcome to Cincy

Yes, that is one of our unique Cincinnati hybrds. Next time you may want to take I-275 east to Eastgate and the location of the newest Jungle Jims. I understand it is even more superfulous.

One thing I don't understand. Why did not Oakley Station or whatever they call the rest of the area around the old Milacron plant not do their their damnest to get Jungle Jim's to locate there? Perhaps they did but just came up short. I expect Jungle Jims with their sucess can now afford good market analysis concerning their customer base

I believe Jungle Jims made a wise decision. Become the destination store in the Eastgate area. There are a whole lot of customers east of eastgate. just like there were north of Fairfield. In both cases is there anyone else?

The next one, if will be Florence, where else?

Success? I heard the Eastgate store is having problems. They cut 150 or so workers a couple of months ago.

The Eastgate JJ's isn't flourishing like the Fairfield. It seems to me that kjbrill is right - they should have located in/around Oakley and Hyde Park.

Hi all!

I am very happy to have you all as a source of inspiration/information for this move. I read your advice to my husband also. We have engaged a realtor and with the market up there as slow with inventory as it is we have found an apartment that will rent short term (2 months) to give us time to adjust and find a house to buy sooner then later.

Been crazy staging the house, sold it in one day, now packing like crazy and getting past the inspections.

I have given the realtor your cities lists for searching.

And my cousin took us the the Jungle Jim's (Eastgate) back in October. What a hoot, love, love the place.

Good luck in your huntings. I will still iterate try and find a community with a strong and diversified community center. In my mind they have taken the place of the downtown.

If I understand correctly you are in your early fifties. So you are past when the kids brought you into contact with other parents of the same age.

My wife has some severe physical handicaps. But she still goes to our community center quite frequently. She has met others who share a common interest in crafts, card making. lots of grandkids, etc. They have joined some craft classes around Cincinnati. They also occasionally enjoy going out to lunch together. They also occasionlly enjoy going to each other's house for crafts and socializing. I am sure if it was not for the occasion to meet people at the community center, my wife would probably be staring at the four walls.

I have an aunt who lives in Washington Court House, has for years. I called her a couple of weeks aqo to touch base, she is 89. She said Kenny when is that casino opening in Cincinnati? I said soon, She said good I want you to come up and get me so I can go down there and gamble. I asked Jane why do you want to gamble? She said because I enjoy it you whippersnapper. Been a long time since I was called a wippersnapper. She said now when you call if you get a busy signal just keep calling. In addition to the internet I am probably on the phone about 12 hours a day. I have one of those unlimited calling plans and boy do I use it. I am frequently on the internet and talking to someone on the phone. How else is an 89 year old widow supposed to survive? She said you know with this internet thing you can talk to people all over the damn world!
