I don't like the lead question in this thread: 'which is more ghetto?' Has a certain racial twinge to it, probably not intended. I'm sure hillside meant African American 'ghetto' ... but he/she could be speaking of white ghetto, Latino ghetto, Asian ghetto, Arab ghetto, etc, etc...

Me and Hillside already settled this. Cleveland has a higher crime rate and poverty but its not too far ahead of Cincinnati so we said it was a tie.

Higher crime rate, yes. Higher poverty rate, no. Of course all those "lists" should be taken with a grain of salt though. And you're right its pretty much a tie.

Cleveland still poor, but not poorest big city in U.S. - Cleveland Metro News – The Latest Breaking News, Photos and Stories from The Plain Dealer

In response to the thread starter, this question is ridiculous. Could you be clearer in what you are really trying to ask. Ghetto, has varying meanings and differs from person to person opinion to opinion. This is just too open ended

I agree this thread is kind of ridiculous. But still I think by ghetto he meant in ways of crime, poverty, decay, bad areas, gangs, drugs, and all other ghetto things. The poverty report is obviously wrong because Cleveland went from 1st to 12th to 1st to 4th, so its not right, but Cleveland is definitely in the top 4. The cities are pretty close so Im calling it a tie in Cleveland vs. Cincinnati. It wouldnt really be a good thing if one of the cities won the match of how ghetto they are, last I checked being ghetto isnt good.

You need to use all 2007 stats, as our crime rate dropped from '06-'07 significantly in certain areas ... enough to use the '07 stats.

Also, can you please post links as well?

hey sorry guys i know its a dumb post but i started it after i commented on the cleveland homicides blog with 440 and some others....i thought some of the bloggers sounded clueless so i wanted to see how much of that i could reproduce by making an inflammatory thread...think of me as the mainstream media lol. it is somewhat valid though. ghetto (run down, poor, outdated, seemingly in disarray, element of danger) is different from high crime, which entitles all forms of crime. new orleans has never made #1 on morgan quitno but its the murder capital...

it is important to realize that a state line cuts right through the middle of cincinnati, while cleveland doesn't have this issue due to the lake. The functional "center city" of cincinnati also includes newport and covington
