Major Renovation announced today. Anyone who as ever been to a Cyclones game or any other event knows how badly this is needed. Here's a link to the article including several renderings. Looks really nice.

Looks pretty, and no doubt the overhaul is long needed.

But I LOLd when I read the quote toward the end that said the arena is a "perfectly good facility for hockey". That guy must never have been to a hockey game.

Does anyone use the Gardens anymore? That is a great place for hockey!

A state of the art arena is the missing piece on the riverfront as started in the video. After going to Wright State for a concert last Wednesday and Indy back in April I am all for this. Nothing is mentioned about funding, is this a done deal that the owners are going ahead with or is the other shoe about to drop? You know that big old clod hopper of shoe known as property or sales tax increases.

Is this the old Riverfront Coliseum? I thought they replaced that years ago.

That was never replaced. Renamed a couple of times. Renovated in 1997. I would have tore it down right after the Who concert.

Owners most likely going to ask for help for the cost. Public/private pay deal. They'll also most likely get funds from the city and county, especially since the RNC said one the major reasons Cincinnati lost to Cleveland was the lack of a first class arena.

The devil is in the details, but if a reasonable deal can be struck with the city/taxpayers, I think it would be money well spent. An arena can be used all year which attracts conventions, concerts, NCAA Basketball Tournament, etc. You've then got world class entertainment facilities covering all seasons-----US Bank Arena - winter months, GABP - spring and summer, PBS - fall months.
