Streetcar rides top 50K
I wonder will it be to able handle the ridership from the expected 600,000 crowd for Oktoberfest this weekend.

SORTA to city: We need $20K to run more than 2 streetcars during Oktoberfest

SORTA was planning only to operate only 2 of the 5 streetcars during Oktoberfest even though the full maximum capacity of the streetcars will be needed for the estimated crowd of 600,000 people for Oktoberfest. Special events like Oktoberfest create opportunities that would generate extra ridership and revenue for the streetcar as to be a big money making opportunity which would easily cover operating costs. SORTA's threat to limit operating capacity to 40% during special events meant it will miss important revenue opportunities to maximize profits. Should not be surprising considering Mayor Cranley appoints the majority of the board members (7 of 13) of SORTA and negotiated the streetcar operation contract with SORTA that sabotages profit making opportunities for the streetcar.

Add that to the fact that Mayor Cranley entered into a disadvantaged deal for the city of Cincy that only keeps 62% of the revenue from ad sales compared with the city of Kansas City keeps 100% of its revenue from their ad sales on its streetcars because their ad sales were not contracted out to an outside agency.

According to a report on 700 WLW news, it sounds like the first week of actual use by paying riders has resulted in the required minimum 3,000 riders (daily average) for the week. Breaking even. Hopefully this trend will continue and if it can attain that average on an annual basis, it will be a far easier sell to the taxpayers to extend the rail lines.

If WLW has something good to say about the streetcar, you know's it's doing excellent! Even the harshest of critics are willing to say it's alright. Good work supporters! Job well done (now the fight continues... uptown!)

Reports are is that the streetcars are still overcrowded on the weekends. It would seem that they would or should run the maximum amount on cars on the weekends. Apparently they underestimated the popularity of the streetcar be at the banks.

What a shock. Crybaby Cranley insisted that we only need to turn 2 cars. They obviously need to run 4 on weekends, especially when 65,000 people are at the Bengals game.
