I am staying right in the middle of downtown, is this a safe area to walk around in the day and at night? What is there to see in Cincinnati?

There are many things to see and do in Cincinnati. I will let longer time residents point them out. I do want to mention that if you have transportation to go a little to the north to Hamilton in Butler County, they are having their IceFest with Ice Sculptures and other activities next weekend.

I'm not a local, but our family visited Cincy a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. What kind of things interest you? Outdoors? Museums? Food? Drink?

We visited the Carew Tower Observation Deck ($4, check their hours), tried to eat breakfast at Hathaway's in the Carew Tower (they were closed), spent some time at Fountain Square ice skating, visited the Cincinnati Museum Center, ate way too much Graeter's ice cream, stopped twice for Skyline Chili, and ate at the oldest restaurant in the city: Arnold's.

We found downtown to be very safe. There is also a streetcar system that runs from the riverfront out to Over-The-Rhine where there is a brewery district and lots of trendy restaurants.
