Hi,

I just bought my dad a mobility scooter so he can continue his fishing adventures. However I cannot find any company that offers liability insurance for mobility scooters. This isn't a street legal scooter, just something to get him around town (sidewalks) There are several in the UK but that doesn't help me in the U.S! Does anyone know of any company or third party company that insures scooters? Any companies that will insure anything that isn't the typical?

Thanks

His homeowner insurance or tenant policy will cover it. Confirm it with your agent.

Don't really see a need for insurance. You can get a good used scooter for $300-$400 and a new one for not much more. (I have two, one in constant use and one a back-up.)

He is talking about liability. Who pays when he runs over your foot.

Thanks for the clarification -- wasn't too alert there. I never ran over anyone's foot, but do know of cases like a person in a wheelchair getting hit by a car and thereby having the equipment wrecked.

Probably homeowners' insurance covers damage to the scooter too even off premises, but one would have to confirm that with the agent.

If it isn't covered under homeowners/renters, you would want to look into an umbrella policy.
