I'm looking to start over with significant savings in a somewhat walkable urban area where finding lucrative work as a waiter in a nicer independent restaurant is a possibility for someone older with extensive experience, versus a college kid. Affordable in this instance equates to around $700-$800 a month for a nicer one bedroom apartment. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

No. You'll get a dump downtown for $700.

You can get a one bedroom at the Waldo Apartments located on East 8th street for $650. The Waldo Apartments is the 8 story red building with the Mansard roof built in 1891 on the right side of the street next to the Gothic Cathedral housing the Covenant-First Presbyterian Church.

You can get a one bedroom at Lytle Tower located on the corner of Broadway and East 4th Street for $800. Lytle Tower is the building on the left with the red awning and the Burrito Joe's restaurant on the ground floor.

Lytle Tower is directly to the right adjoining the R.G. McGraw Insurance building.

You can definitely find things downtown in your price range, just not in the new hip urbo-disney zone. Walk three blocks away in any direction.

Garfield Place is reasonably priced too. $805 for a studio. $870 for a 1 bedroom.

I know you specifically said you were looking to live downtown, but would you also be willing to consider Covington or Newport? In my humble opinion, large portions of both cities are every bit as good as downtown Cincinnati, as far as urban living goes. Not to mention how easy it is to get downtown from both.
