Hi, my husband has rather unexpectedly been offered a great relocation to Cinccinnati. His office will be in downtown. We are moving here from northern california. We have 3 children, the oldest being in 1st grade. What are the best school systems in the area (public and/or private) and where are the best family oriented places to live. That will determine where we live. Thanks in advance.

If you can pay $300+ for a house, then you'll have a number of very good options (Sycamore, Lakota, Mason, Mariemont, Indian Hill, Madiera, Wyoming). If you want to live in a more middle class district but still with good schools, you'll have plenty of choices too (Anderson, Oak Hills, Princeton, Finneytown, Colerain, Winton Woods).

If you live in the actual city limit of Cincinnati and thus are subject to its public schools, you need to go private. If you'd like to go public, check out Campbell County (i.e. Ft. Thomas area) or maybe Mariemont or Indian Hill if you can afford it.

Default More info

Thank you for the feedback. We can afford a house in the 750k range which I understand gives us a lot of options. We do want to stay in Ohio.

While I want to be where the best schools are, I also do not want our kids to go to a school full of snobs. Is that Indian Hill's reputation? Also, it's important to me that I am close to some kind of main street (coffee shops, etc) and that our kids have a neighborhood with kids to play with. Is that Indian Hills? Thanks.

Indian Hills does have the snob reputation. I would certainly go for Hyde Park. It's a really lovely area, has a terrific (and very long) main street (Erie Ave, I believe) with coffee, ice cream, boutiques, restaurants, etc. but it also has a certain bohemian quality that's refreshing. You can find some really gorgeous houses.

As far as schools go, I would certainly recommend The Cincinnati Waldorf School. Waldorf schools have an amazing reputation, being non-traditional in their educational methods, but turning out intellectual, artistic, and innovative individuals. Kids from Waldorf schools generally are far more advanced in being able to think for themselves. Check out their website: Welcome to CWS Home Page It's a private school and they teach infants through grade eight. As for high school (when the time comes) I would recommend Walnut Hills or the School for Creative and Performing Arts.

Good luck!

Also, be sure to check out all the activities and entertainment that Cincinnati has to offer! There's more to Cincinnati than meets the eye.

With 750k to spend on a house I would recommend Montgomery or Blue Ash. You would be in Sycamore Schools, which are top notch with huge parental involvment, not snobby at all. YOur kids would not have a lot of kids to play with living in Indian Hills, just because of the way the houses are situated. It is also the most expensive neighborhood in cinti, so if you want more house, I would count that out. Check out the following links.

also sibcycline.com, it is a website, where you can search houses by school district, put in sycamore.
