Greater Cincinnati mall under contract; demo and $150M project planned

Quote:
Hillwood, a Perot company based in Dallas, has a contract to purchase Forest Fair Village, formerly known as Forest Fair Mall. There, the developer plans to demolish the 1.9-million-square-foot mall and build about 1.5 million square feet of light industrial buildings. The total investment for the project would be about $150 million.

It's about time

Wow.

I think I went there only once when it was fully operational. It was never worth the hike from Madisonville.

Went up there this past weekend. There were more people wandering around than I've seen in years. Probably taking a last stroll through before demolition. It has become quite a sensation amongst dead mall enthusiasts. Seeing the old showcase cinemas always brings through a raft of nostalgia.

My family still makes the trip up from Finneytown to mall walk there several times/year.

Without sifting through the older Forest Fair thread, can any long time residents share what years comprised the "golden era" of the mall?

I only started going there in the mid-90s as a kid so most of my clearest memories are from my adolescent years in the mid-2000s. At the point, the mall was a shell of its former self.

I moved to Cincinnati in '89 and Forest Fair may have been at its peak then, though keep in mind there were still a lot of vacancies.

In 6th grade around 1991-1992 I went on a 'date' at the Forest Fair mall with a girl from West Chester. She lied to her parents about who she was meeting and her mom nabbed her before she could go into a movie with me, so I watched 'Home Alone' by myself.

I'm kind of sorry to hear another mall is no longer, as malls were a big deal in my youth. I guess Kenwood Towne Center is still doing well, but otherwise, malls are relics of a bygone era.
