I've seen this hotel but I'm a little confused about the revolving restaurant.

This isn't the old Stouffers Hotel, is it?

What was the original name and about when was it constructed?

Default Gourmet Room

I was the relief Bartender at the Gourmet Room in the late 70s A gentelman with the name of Petre was the full time bartender. The restaurant was 5 Star rated and was one of only 9 in the US at the time.
Cincinnati had several 5 star rated at that time. Pagall's, Maisonette, to name a few. The Gourmet Room never rotated. When I worked there the chef was Jerry East. He would prepare what ever I wanted for my lunch break and I would give him a six pack of Hieniken in return. He gave the Beer to his help and use it in between wine tasting. I would pay for the beer out of my tip money. The blind piano player Henry and I would joke around between customers. I would work Joe,s Bar most of the time as well as the Taparay Bar in the Netherland Hilton. I worked both Hotels and many Parties. My Favorite was the Gormet Room and the Hall of Mirriors.

I was in the Terrace Hilton before it was a Hilton Hotel and I do not think it revolved. Prior to 1960 there were no revolving hotels or restaurants in Cincinnati.

BJLUNDY,

If you had read all the posts, you would have discovered that the actual location of the revolving restaurant was originally {just from info gained on this forum} Stouffer's.

Sometime after that, it became the Crown Plaza Hotel, and then the Millenium Hotel. I'm not really sure it still revolves, but is used as a banquet room.

For anyone who is interested, the Terrace Hotel closed, without explanation:

The Terrace restaurant had a Joan Miro mural in it when it first opened.

The buidling was one of the very first modern skyscrapers to go up in the US in the postwar era, late 1940s, and was published in at least one book on modern hotel design, which is how I knew of it, years before I moved to Ohio.

The building was actually mixed use as there was a department store and other retail on the lower floors.

the goumet room was originally built to rotate, this explains the round design.... I worked there and we stored extra tables and chairs under the dining room,,, in that basement area was some of the "mechanicals" of revolving apparatus.... BUT, it was never completed.... and never revolved. new York and Cleveland mob bosses liked to meet there when in cincinnati.

Hello there, everyone. I'm a local filmmaker who's been asked by a historical preservation group in Cincinnati to put together a brief documentary on the Terrace Plaza Hotel. As you know, it's recently been closed and the future of the building is uncertain. We're hoping the film will make an impact with the city so we can save this important part of Cincinnati's history.

In our film, we'd like to include brief interviews with people who have fond memories of the hotel. Perhaps you and your family ate in the Gourmet Room? Maybe you had attended a party there? Did you work there, or stay in any of the rooms? Or maybe you just remember all of the excitement from when it was being built?

We're open to anything, so if you're interested, please email me at nicole.desender@gmail.com and tell me a little bit about your experience. I apologize for not being able to offer any financial compensation for your time (as we weren't afforded a budget) but we'd be very grateful for your help. Thank you all for your time and consideration!

Note: We're not doing the film on the hotel that rotates. Here is a website with some images of the Terrace Plaza Hotel: http://queencitysurvey.blogspot.com/...jewels_21.html

Hi All Who seem to be confussed about the Gourmet Room. My father George Coorey was the Pianoist there for 40 years. No it didn[t revolve ever. It has been a banquet room for the last 15 years. He donated his baby grand piano which is still there and used for special occassions.
