Hi All --

Super-specific question, here.

From the 1950s through the 1970s, it was common among retail establishments to invest in rotating signs.

They're often somewhat "post-Googie" in architectural style -- and are/were often found at drive-ins, liquor stores, or retail centers in general.

In Cincinnati area, I can offer one example: Hyde Park Center... southeast corner of Madison Rd & Edwards Rd. A big, rotating sign (likely from the 80s or even early 90s) to anchor the site.

Are there any more examples of rotating signs in/around town still actively rotating?

They were easy enough to find through the last decade... but they've rapidly disappeared. Any info appreciated!

I know of the rotating signs, but off hand can't think of any that I've seen lately. I moved here in 1989 so while I am sure there were some around before then, I have no idea where they are.

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I spot one, even if it is one that looks like it may have have rotated at one time but that function is currently dead.

Default western southern

The most famous of the non-functioning rotating signs is the one downtown for Western & Southern Life Insurance, which you can see from Fort Washington Way. There have been several attempts to restore it but the parts needed are no longer available. I don't know if anyone has tried to manually reproduce the parts.

Im out of my element here so if I my info is redundant to you I apologize in advance. For grins I would check with the American Sign Museum in Camp Washington.

Not rotating, but Indian at Paddock and Vine is still up at Motortime. https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/17406

They wanted to make the arm go up and down, but the town council stopped it for safety issues
