Any "best college town" list that doesn't include Madison is a fraud..

Am I the only one here that just does *not* like college towns? They do not interest me in the least bit...

I know a lot of people rave about them, maybe I just don't *get it*...

I'd rather live in a city that has colleges, instead of a town thats ran by one big college.

Personally, I love college towns. If, for some reason, I couldn't live in a major city, then I would want to be in a college town.

College towns offer big city amenities like pedestrian malls, walkable neighborhoods, lots of bike lanes, coffee shops, ethnic restaurants, independent movie theaters, small concert venues, organic grocery stores, alternative book stores, head shops, art galleries, live theater, and museums, just on a much, much smaller scale. I'd take a college town over a suburb any day.

BTW, I voted for Fort Collins because Madison wasn't an option.

Bloomington, Indiana is the best! Of course, look at my location, I'm a bit biased, but I stand by what I said. lol.

That town thrives on IU! Everywhere you go your going to see everyone wearing an IU shirt.

One-dimensional college towns are boring. Multi-dimensional college towns where the university is the hub, but not necessarily the primary source, of the city's culture can be interesting, depending on the vibe. They can be a good compromise between too-big/crowded/expensive/dirty/crime-ridden urban living and soul-crushing suburban living.

If I could drop everything and move to Madison right now, I'd very seriously consider it. But that's the only college town I've ever been where I've felt that "at home," and a good part of that is what the entire state of Wisconsin has to offer. Oh, and being a 2.5-hour shot from Chicago doesn't hurt either. I've been to other college towns that are pretty nice and have a decent vibe and I could live there if I had to, and I've been to others where I wouldn't feel any sense of loss if I never stepped foot in 'em again.
