On top of your original post, click "Thread Tools" and click "add poll" and you can still add one and customize it for multiple choice or open to public (as in view who voted for what). And all that good stuff.

As for me, Detroit is my choice and answer.

ok why do people on C-D insist on making Ann Arbor a suburb of Detroit??? it is not a suburb of Detroit and not even close enough to be compared to the Twin Cities (which I doubt are 40 min away from each other)

I included Ann Arbor because the US Census includes it in Detroit CSA and because it gives the added benefit of State Capital and University of Michigan vs State Capital and University of Minnesota. If you don't like it, don't reply. But just so you know, its 40 miles between the two and 37 miles between the outside areas of Twin Cities. The Metro I live in (Orlando) is closer to 50 miles from North to South so this really doesn't seem that inexplicable to justify your hissy fit.

Because it IS apart of Detroit's Metropolitan Area!

Excerpt:
Quote:
The nine-county area designated by the United States Census Bureau as the Detroit–Ann Arbor–Flint Combined Statistical Area (CSA) includes the three additional counties of Genesee, Monroe, and Washtenaw, the metropolitan areas of Flint, Ann Arbor, and Monroe, plus the Detroit-Warren-Livonia MSA. It had a population of 5,357,538 as of the 2000 census. The Census Bureau's 2009 estimate placed the population at 5,327,764.[1] This CSA covers an area of 5,814 square miles (15,060 km2). Lenawee County was removed from Detroit's CSA in 2000.
Metro Detroit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's not a suburb, nor is it an exurb, its just another city in the metropolitan area that Detroit anchors. For many people like my cousins in the suburb of Plymouth, Ann Arbor is ACTUALLY only 15 minutes away as opposed to Detroit being 30 minutes away or so. (Something like that)

That is why Ann Arbor is apart of Detroit's Metropolitan Area, both statistically, geographically, & socially.

Ann Arbor is beautiful, and suburban Detroit is pretty, tall green and lush tree's at all times of the year including winter, not necessarily too flat but not annoyingly hilly, and really nice scenery all around with nice lakes and such. Detroit's skyline is a great work from the past. Detroit's location is probably one of the best for the Midwest, and its still very much a major city. I like Detroit, and my vote is easily for it.

Criteria:
-Outdoor Activities: Tie

-Nightlife: Detroit (College nightlife in Ann Arbor for the win)

-Arts/Culture: Detroit

-Job Outlook: Twin Cities

-Public Transit: Don't know

-Education: Twin Cities are more educated, one of the most in the country along with Seattle, Washington DC, Boston, & Bay Area

-Health: Twin Cities

-Crime: Twin Cities are safer overall

-Quality of Life: I prefer Detroit Metro

-Cost of Living: Detroit Metro

-Food: Tie.

-Skyline: Detroit > Minneapolis > Saint Paul

Overall: I like both, but Metro Detroit for me, especially with Ann Arbor.

No vote....I don't have anything against Detroit and don't want to vote against it for any reason.

Long story short... I think Minneapolis wins as a city currently but putting the entire metros into view, I would have to give the edge to Detroit. I also think Detroit will eventually bounce back. Detroit location is also definitely nice... wouldn't mind Dropping Chicago where Detroit is You've got a lot more nature around there, plus you are bumped up to Canada and reasonable drives to Toronto and Niagara Falls.
