With the large Catholic population throughout the nation and how they have been THE college football team for the past 80 years, there weight goes far beyond Nebraska and Kansas. That's why they are on NBC and no other program is not.

Kudos to Notre Dame for their history but it's just that, history. Their performance has been sad for a long time now and I think NBC recognizes that and thinks they made a mistake.
Saying Notre Dame is better than someone like Florida would be akin to saying the British Military is better than Americas only because historically Britains Navy dominated the world for a long time even though today their military is a weak shadow of what it used to be.

Let me say this. They hit a low and has been in that low for the past 15-20 years. Texas has hit this low before. OU hit it. Alabama hit it. USC hit it. Every team hits it. They don't stay down there forever though. I happen to think they got the right coach to do the job as well. I was never a big fan of Weiss being the head coach. I am for Kelly.

Difference is, Notre Dame doesn't have near the recruiting base those other schools do in the rapidly deteriorating midwest. Ohio State gets pretty much everything in the region. Also, since there are so many more channels and so many more ways to see games that NBC contract doesn't mean that much anymore.

Most of there fanbase is up North. Not nearly as many followers down here. And like I said, HISTORICALLY they're important. As of late? They've done nothing. That's why they keep firing coaches.

I agree with UTHORN, Notre Dame also doesn't have the same recruiting as Texas, Florida, Cali, Louisiana, etc. All of the Midwest best recruits are from Ohio and usually end up playing for either Ohio State, or Cincinnati.
